Shoots Chinese Restaurant Reviews

Best Chinese restaurant in the Provo/Orem area. The cashew chicken and sweet and sour pork was delicious. Fresh ingredients and perfect rice. Definitely going back for more! I want to try their scallops and asparagus.

I ordered chicken fried rice. I counted three small strings of chicken total. Food is good. Serving size and ingredients could use some improvement.

We love Shoots. The food is fresh and delicious. They are rarely over crowded. (I hesitate saying that because I like it that way, but also would love for them to stay in business) eating in is best because you get free wonton and sweet and sour sauce. So good. The egg drop soup is great and we live the pan fry noodle dish 😋

Not Chinese food... this is like Chinese influenced American/Asian food. They had a food called "chinese pancakes" it was frozen tortillas!!!??! It was BAD. My kids wouldn't eat it and they eat almost everything. We told management it was terrible cause it was also SO expensive, and their response was "Ya, it's not very Chinese, we cater to American people." She also confirmed that the "Chinese pancakes" were just frozen tortillas.

Everything was great. The service, the food. The "chips and salsa" (sweet and sour sauce with puffy crispy squares) is something i don't typically see at Chinese restaurants and a nice touch. I enjoyed the hot and sour soup. The eggplant dish was very tasty. The portions were perfect for lunch. I'll definitely be back.

I don’t understand the recent low ratings. If they want quantity over quality, then go to Panda Express or some other fast food Chinese place. This is a sit down restaurant…of course prices will be higher than fast food. Shoots serves family style sized portions where you order a few entrees for a family and everyone shares. So far they are the best tasting Chinese food I’ve found in Utah County. Their tangerine chicken and Mongolian beef are amazing, and the chow mein is truly delightful. I’ve had two of their soups, both of which were really good. I’ve had several other entrees, all of which were great. I’ve been a repeat customer and will continue to come whenever I want better quality than something like Panda Express.

Food was ok but portions were TINY. I paid over $16 for what's basically a frozen TV dinner sized portion. When I asked the waitress about the portion size her response was "well you came to us so I guess that's your problem." I will not be returning.

$15 for what looks like a lame lunch portion (Black Pepper Beef). This was the dinner portion of meat… I put every piece of meat from the griddle to the plate when it came out to see how unbalanced the meal was. Green peppers and onions made up most of the plate. I was so disappointed I am leaving a review, which I have done only once for any restaurant I’ve been to. Waitress gave me my food and never returned to check in until I asked for my check. I actually remember going here for take out on New Years a couple of years ago. My family of four was still hungry after 4 entrees and an appetizer. I gave them the benefit of the doubt for it being a holiday but I will never return after this visit. Money vs. service- not impressed.

Really, really love Shoots! If we're eating Chinese cuisine in Utah Valley it's at Shoots. Food is always spot on. Light and inviting. They will make accommodation for my celiac condition - thank you! The service staff is friendly and efficient just as it should be. Set against the backdrop of beautiful Provo canyon we always have a great experience at Shoots!

Chicken and plain noodles tasted like fish, cross contamination was an issue. My husband paid while we were finishing up and I was nursing my son. We were told we had to leave right then because we had paid and someone else needed the table. I am very irritated with the quality of food and being told to leave and not being able to finish feeding my son.

Tangerine chicken is delicious. Lightly breaded, crispy, sweet. Chicken lo mein has great flavor. The friendliest staff. Fast service. Some of the best Chinese food around. I also love that you can order a dish like sweet and sour chicken without the breading on the chicken if you prefer it that way. Delicious. Affordable.

Very disappointed! I got the house special fried rice to go and I ordered it without shrimps because I'm allergic and I was very disappointed with the quality of the ingredients. I saw no eggs, instead of chicken they put pork fat and they put a few cashews and pineapples. I don't like Panda express but this food was way worse than the Panda fried rice. I also got the tangerine chicken and it was okay. Wasn't the best I ever had. So I don't think I wanna come back

The service and the portions of the food made up for the lack in originality in the taste of the food. To be fair I ordered the chicken chow mein and a side of ham fried rice so my food was not anything too out of the ordinary. But I felt that my meal was pretty similar to other Chinese places I've had before.

Very frustrated with my experience at Shoots. Have been to the restaurant 3 times now. Really enjoy the food and appreciate the gluten free options. We've ordered takeaway once before, and were disappointed with the portions as they were significantly smaller than the in person portions even with the same price entrees. Was at the Riverwoods today and decided to give their takeaway another try. The restaurant was mostly empty so I made a point to order an extra (and extra expensive) dish to try to help a local business. When the order came out, checked the boxes to make sure everything was there and commented to the waitress that the "side of broccoli" with the firecracker chicken looked like literally one piece of broccoli that had been cut into 3 pieces to look like more. She tried to explain away that it was supposed to just be garnish when the menu says specifically the dish comes with a side of broccoli. Then double checked that the rice was for the 2 dishes we'd ordered that were supposed to come with rice and she said yes even though the portion looked barely enough for 2 people. So I asked for extra lettuce thinking that my more expensive order and generous tip would be sufficient to be able to spare some extra iceberg lettuce and she checked with the kitchen and then told me I'd have to pay extra if I wanted any. Good thing I didn't get any extra lettuce anyway because the portions for the $10 chicken lettuce wraps were only enough for about 3 wraps. It seems absurd that a $50 meal made of 3 entrees would not be enough portion wise to feed 2 average adults and one 2 year old. If you're wondering, the $18 honey walnut shrimp is no exemption to the tiny portions. Good food, would love to see this local business thrive and also treat their customers better, with a more generous mindset. Probably will not be coming back.

Okay I've seen all the positive comments on here so I went to this restaurant I'm absolutely shocked I'm guessing Utah county does not know what good Chinese food is to start, he food portions are so small we ended up eating a big dinner a great hours later, we left hungry. The chicken strips of deep fried batter, little to no chicken in them. Oh and I only got a few of them with my meal. The main portion. The cashew chicken had no cashews and it was such a small portion again my husband was not full we left hungry. I am not a big eater neither. The one good thing was their sweet and sour sauce was good but no better than other Chinese resurauntd. I do not recommend this place to anyone anytime anyhow if you want really good Chinese food? Chin wah in Sandy takes the Cake It is by far the best Chinese restaurant I have ever been to.

The food isn’t that much better than Panda Express. It is better but not worth the price difference in my opinion. The vibes are nice and it’s definitely a date place. However, the wait is really really long. Overall, I will come back for sure but not frequently.

First time eating here , nice little place , friendly staff and our server was great , we order 2 different entrees and when we saw the size of the plates it was not enough to share , had to order a 3rd entree for my husband , a little pricey for the amount of food but I would still go back Loved the shrimp chow mein which I pretty much ate all by my self lol and the wonton soup was tasty too For my husband we did the Mongolian beef which was actually really good , a little on the spicy 🌶 side but he love it , the tangerine chicken had good flavor but a little too much breading, They also had raspberry lemonade which was good. Would definitely try it again but don’t come too hungry lol 😂 !!!! Over all great flavors !!!

I used to love Shoots but I was not impressed this last time. My husband ordered salmon which was old and tasted fishy on a bed of asparagus, which contained exactly 2. I ordered Chinese pancakes and got an old, bad tasting tortilla. It just wasn't up to snuff. If they are subbing out stuff, they should tell you or not put it on the menu. Overall, sadly just an ok experience. They should have neither sold the salmon nor the pancakes.

The vegetable mu shu is to die for, even if you aren’t a big veggie person. It’s my favorite Chinese dish I’ve had. I also love how they start you out with complementary wonton chips and sweet and sour sauce. The honey walnut shrimp is also killer. I wasn’t a fan of the honey walnut chicken (way too crispy and not enough meat) or the Mongolian beef. I wouldn’t recommend everything on the menu, but if you get the right things, this place is phenomenal.

First time going. I have a regular place down in Provo that I love and so I was hesitant about trying a new Chinese place but Shoots did not disappoint. The price is what you’d expect out of a restaurant in this location. We got the shrimp tempura appetizer (Japanese I know but it was pretty good) and it comes with various fried vegetables as well. I got the Black Pepper Steak dish that came out on a skillet. The flavor was fantastic. My wife got the Fried Tofu dish and the tofu was cooked wonderfully. We ended up getting the special tempura cheesecake for dessert and it was fantastic. Honestly I’d go back for only dessert that is how good it was. All in all I was impressed and will more than likely be back.

Wow. I've been bummed at a lack of decent Chinese in Orem/Provo besides P.F.Changs. I was blown away by this place. We had the Tangerine Beef, General Chicken and noodles. Each dish was clearly thought out and wasn't at all what I was expecting. The employees were so nice. You get used to horrible service at little Chinese places, it's just the norm. I was surprised when the hostess and I assume the owner, were both incredibly friendly and seemed genuinely happy we were there. I can't wait to go back. Great, now I'm hungry.

The food is absolutely fantastic! The atmosphere is cozy and comfortable and the employees are kind and friendly. We were served wonton chips with a tart sweet/sour sauce to start. I ordered the sliced beef w/fresh green beans and my husband had the general's chicken....YUM!! The meats were tender, the veggies crisp and the sauces perfect. There are only a few good Chinese restaurants...this is one of them! Hope a Shoots opens in Rexburg or Idaho Falls soon!

It was nice to have a kids menu that didn't have generic items like chicken nuggets and fries. Lunch special was killer, 9.99 for an entree, soup, and egg roll. Kiwi lemonade is a must try. This place hits the spot for fresh good Chinese food. They cook everything to your needs, whether your vegetarian, vegan, GF, or just picky. They do it! It's owned by a local Hong Kong native and their staff are always super nice. My favorite is the black pepper beef steak, it has a small kick of spice that just keeps me coming back for more! P.S. They don't cook with MSG!!!!

If you like PF Chang's, but don't really want to wait in line or deal with the large franchise experience, Shoots is the way to go. It's a small shop with a friendly serving staff. The prices are comparable to Chang's and the food is on par.

My wife and I came here for dinner the other day. It's a cozy atmosphere and the price for the food was spot on. We had the lettuce wraps and the hot garlic chicken with rice and walked out for $30 totally satisfied. The service was prompt and very kind. Will definitely be returning next time the Chinese food craving sets in.

Very nice atmosphere, staff was pleasant, food was well prepared. I'm satisfied. The prices are on point ($10-$15 per plate, unless you buy seafood, then add $3 more). We also had a discount from the FavoriteEats app on a 2drink and 2entre purchase. It perfected the evening!

We have only been to Riverwoods a few times and were excited to try something new and we were drawn to shoots.... we walked in the open door only to be told that they didn't open until noon and we needed to wait outside.... it was 11:57 am. We asked if we could sit in the waiting area for the 3 minutes and we were still told to wait outside. It was very odd and unwelcoming behavior so we decided to go to malawis where we were welcomed happily, (yes we were a whole minute early for its opening). Maybe don't open your doors if you are closed, and maybe make the sacrifice and seat the only people that showed up for lunch a couple of minutes early.... you missed out on 65$ plus tips, not to mention I will Not be back and will let others know.

Beautiful bamboo themed decor. Great service, friendly and prompt. We had the hot garlic chicken and they were willing to make it mild. Great flavor and tender. Loved the pot stickers. They compared to PF CHANGS pot stickers. Enjoyed the Sesame chicken too.

Fun atmosphere within the Riverwoods shops. Beautiful interior and romantic with real oil candles. We had the tangerine chicken and honey walnut shrimp. Tangerine chicken was a wonderful and refreshing new flavor. The honey walnut shrimp was tasty, but about as good as panda express (but for twice the price). Good and fast service.

There's not a lot of reasonable options for Chinese in Utah County. Once you add a requirement you can have a beer, or glass of wine, it's limited to Shoots and P.F. Changs. In that light, they do well. It gives you 80% of Chang's for less money and it's locally owned. That said, it suffers from the same problems. It's overly sweet. The spicy isn't -- even if you ask for it that way. It's Chinese comfort food, there's no fine dining dishes. I appreciate being brought here again on a business meal, because it's not part of my regular rotation.

Great food, had the bobo platter and tangerine chicken. Liked the crab puffs on the platter so much we ordered another serving. Service was a little slow but we weren't in a rush so it gave us time to talk and enjoy the food. Quantity was about right for the price and the quality and taste was right on. Will come here again.

My husband and I arrived on a Friday night at 8:50 pm. The rush should have been over and when we walked in we expected to have fairly quick service. We did have to wait 5 minutes for a table to be cleaned off for us, which was fine. But the waitress took a long time to get to our table, and even longer to come back each subsequent time. By the time we got our food it was 9:45. Two other (large) parties that arrived after us were served before our 2 dishes came. No explanations or complimentary drink/appetizer while we were waiting so long for our meals. The food was pretty good. (I got the Broccoli with Hot Garlic, and my husband liked the Salt and Pepper Chicken for a change from regular Chinese fare.) But I was rather disappointed in the service. If we go back, we'll have to see what the service is like in the middle of the dinner rush, instead of at the end.

Everything is perfectly prepared, the owner was very nice, server was great, food was delicious. We ordered the sesame chicken, which was perfectly tender and crispy. The sauce had the perfect flavor and came out at just the right temperature. Eggdrop soup was great. They also give you wonton chips to snack on before the food comes! -been here twice, and will be back frequently

Took forever to get our food. Horriable Server, she spilled water all over my father and then continued to tell us that she couldn't substitue our rice with noodles. Really? How hard is that to do? The owner never even came over to apoligize about my fathers soiled clothes and continued to mop the floor without comping any of our meals. This place is a joke. I will never go here again!!!! BAD

One of my favorite places for Chinese food. The portions are good and priced appropriately. The food always tastes fresh, and I've never been disappointed with anything I've ordered. Some favorites are the Mongolian Beef and the Honey Walnut Chicken or Shrimp. The ambiance is enjoyable and friendly. The owner is often found in the front of the house greeting and helping seat guests; it's good to see the owner engaging with his customers directly. Generally the service is quite good, but occasionally can be a bit slow.
