Royal China Restaurant Reviews

Great food at a reasonable price. Went during dinner when it was really busy. Met friends there and the wait was short. Have been here 3-4 times already and plan to return many more times. Our friends were so happy to find a good chinese restaurant that they also plan to return.

0/10 I do not recommend this restaurant. It's overpriced for the portion, quality, and service. We tried this restaurant for the first time and did not have a good experience. We ordered three different dishes, one of them was the pork belly with bok choy. Soon after the pork belly dish arrived, we discovered what looked like a caterpillar bug in it. This obviously made us lose our appetite. The owner of the restaurant was at the next table chatting with guests. We tried to quietly grab his attention when he walked away from the other table but he ignored us. The restaurant was extremely busy and we were attempting to be discrete about it. Our waitress finally came around and took the dish away. After the dish was taken away, the way the staff handled our issue was unprofessional. She took the dish out into the hall and a few of the other staff crowded around and were discussing about it in Chinese. They were talking about how it was suspicious and talked about us planting the bug. Either they didn't care or were careless about still being within sight and earshot of our table. It was extremely disrespectful and made a bad experience worse. We were asked if we wanted a different dish and we declined. One of the other dish was the Lu Rou main. I asked if there was additional seasoning for the noodle as it was bland. The waitress response was that the dish was premade and there wasn't much to be done. At that point we asked for the check, paid for our meal along with a tip, and left.

came here on Tuesday after work hoping to try this Chinese place after seeing all the good reviews. Terrible experience... rude bartender.... all she wants to do is sit and talk to her "favorite" clients and ignores everyone else while the other woman just stares at her phone, leaving the 3rd one having to manage phone and everything else by herself. I was standing there for a good 20mins before the 3rd girl who was managing the phone noticed the other 2 were ignoring me and came over to see if I needed help.

We loved it! Absolutely delicious food and honestly great service. We tried egg rolls, rangoons, orange chicken, sesame chicken, chicken lo mein, shrimp fried rice, and kung pow; all were delicious! Rangoons were the best we’ve ever tasted. Sesame was the table favorite with orange chicken coming in next. Restaurant was clean and again on the service- just wonderful! There were 5 of us and with us splurging and tipping well- over 20%- we were under $170 so I felt like that was fair pricing for the quality food and service we received. We’ll most certainly be back when in the area again.

Our 3 party table ordered multiple plates to share and try. The soup dumplings were unbelievably delicious (they even brought tears to this foodies eyes!). The bok choy with mushrooms was a fantastic vegetable dish. The bok choy was cooked yet still crisp! The hand pulled noodles were absolutely delightful with and incredible texture and flavor! I can't wait to go back.

On the fence about going after reading the reviews? So was I. I was hoping that the negative reviews were overly critical folks expecting a Din Tai Fung. Sadly, most of them are on point. The food is bland, nothing was really great, and everything arrived cold. The service is rude and subpar. The only thing we liked were the soup dumplings but they’re not to the point where I’d recommend going out of the way for. The dumpling dough is also very thick. I was expecting authentic Chinese food but all I got was another “orange chicken” level restaurant. I did not believe the other reviews. But they’re right. This is just another Chinese diner that’s way over hyped.

Difficult to rate because it depends what you’re looking for. If you want highly flavored, authentic Chinese then this is not the place to go — Drive to Richardson instead. If you want good quality, safe but bland food in a lively North Dallas atmosphere then this place fits that. For me, it’s priced too high for what you get plus the off-putting long table waits.

I ordered the Kung Pao chicken, Lunch Special. I requested veggie replacement instead of rice but ended up getting no replacement at all. 1 envelope of soy sauce and no hot sauce was provided. The chicken in the Kung Pao was not seasoned and this is the first time I have ever had to add salt to Chinese food. And where are the peanuts?? So I guess if you want to pay $17 for a bland lunch, this is the place to go.

Royal China is a Dallas institution. Restaurants don't last as long as they have if they aren't good. All of their hand stretched noodles are amazing. It's a little pricey, but consider the location. RC is probably my favorite Chinese restaurant in Dallas. If I was going to have a least meal, RC is what I'd choose.

(Translated by Google) It has to be said that foreigners’ money is really easy to earn. If this level is to open a restaurant in China, the owner will starve to death. . Picture 1, this thing is a leek box, picture 2, ants made of shredded meat are on the tree, and the shredded meat is even, and it has not been removed. . . And there was a lot of soup, the vermicelli was so rotten that it couldn't hold it, and the rice was still hard. The store was still full of people. . At once. . Fine. And the waiter can speak Chinese, and on the premise of knowing that we are Chinese, he still speaks English to us. How about pretending to be nm? How did I find out? Because I was wearing headphones, I couldn't hear him speaking English for the first time. Then I took off the headphones and asked him. He repeated it in Chinese, and I realized that he could speak Chinese.

Reviews looks good on yelp so wanted to go check out the restaurant but it was a very unpleasant visit! The service was good but our food had came out fast that it was questionable; upon eating the food it was either bland or very salty And RAW ! Raw soup dumplings told them but don't think they'll fix their management in the kitchen with other issues with their soup dumplings from other reviewers. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND!!!

We ordered the Mongolian beef, lemon chicken, pork fried rice, and shrimp and sizzling rice soup. We spent $90 for the two of us, and ended up throwing 80% of it away because it tasted so foul. The lemon chicken tasted like cleaner, the Mongolian beef was incredibly salty, the pork fried rice was bland and crunchy, and the shrimp and sizzling rice soup was served with normal white rice and the soup tasted like fish water. It was the worst thing I’ve eaten in a long time. I am so disappointed that for so much money, we ended up having to eat something else for dinner. If you have experience with quality Chinese food, this is not the place.

We had heard the noodles here were great. Coming in, we asked our server what the recommendations or popular items were. We tried the dumpling sampler, which was excellent, and a noodle dish. The noodle sldish was spicy and not for the faint of heart, but it was really good. We also tried one of the special flavored teas and it was a nice addition to the meal. It was crowded when we went, but it was a Saturday. However, they had a table for us immediately anyway. The service was excellent. We'll definitely be going back to try other dishes. Update: Went back and dried other dishes. Everything was amazing. Tried a yellow curry soup that had the most amazing base. Also tried the dried stirred beef, which has been on the menu since they opened. I wasn't all that hungry but at every bit of it. Even more crowded than last time, but we asked to sit at the noodle bar and were seated immediately. The wait at this place on weekend evenings is justified.

Literally the best Chinese food I’ve ever had. It’s so much fun there and to get all the many dishes. The staff is very friendly as well. Even when they are slammed it’s only a 30-45 minute wait at dinner on weekends. Great job guys! Will be coming here for a life time.

This establishment used to be good. Lately something has changed. I ignored the sub-par quality a few weeks ago but….. today we ordered orange chicken and egg foo young to-to-go. The orange chicken had little to no orange sauce and the meat was dry and over-cooked. The egg foo young was also over-cooked. If I lived closer than 30 miles away I would have returned both.

Essentially fancy American Chinese food that is well prepared but not at all authentic. It’s good quality, it tastes great but at the end of the day it’s pretty pricey for what you get. Also even if you go early, they get busy so be prepared to wait 40+ minutes to get seated. Soup dumplings had a wrapper that was the same as potstickers. It was thick and not delicate. There was also not enough soup in the dumplings but the flavors were right. I like that they have a proper tea menu but most teas like the puerh we got was $10 a pot. Soup dumplings, fun rolls and dry fried beef came out to $70.

Best dumpling in town, hand made fresh daily. I've been several time in lunch meeting at this place and service it's great. I had a bad experience on my last to go visit, I pick up dinner to go order and did not had a disposal silverware, or chips that they serve when you seat at the restaurant and they also did not offer even if it's an additional cost. I believe the food can be salt reduce a bit.

It was alright at best, really not much better than pf changs or panda Express when comparing similar dishes ...nothing really special for the price per plate, the noodles were good but everything was just like any other American cheap junk Chinese food. - First bite into soup dumplings, nasty piece of cartlidge or bone, taste was ok otherwise, again nothing special - orange chicken and a few of the meals were just average at best, also almost broke a tooth on something rock hard in the chicken batter Just average, maybe alittle better than your run of the mill fast food Chinese place but not what you would expect from other reviews, I guess we have a very low bar here in Texas for Chinese food C- overall

My first visit to Royal China was pretty good. I opted for the dumpling platter to start and was WOW'd by the dipping sauces. It was great to see into the prep area too. Nothing quite as cool as seeing the steps in making these tasty morsels. The wonton soup was delicious with the added ability of adding them to your liking. Main dish was a sweet and spicy chicken. It was... Good. No frills. 😊

Having grown up in the greater New York, Philadelphia metro area, I'm the wrong guy to discuss Chinese for of Dallas... It's kind of like discussing the presidency of Hillary Clinton, it doesn't exist. This place does do a good job but sometimes, it misses the mark. This recent trip was one of those days and hence, the three stars. Don't get me wrong, I'll go again and hope again and try again, maybe something different and maybe it'll be a four star event. The service is always friendly and this visit was one of those. They're always always attentive and one day, the sky will open, the seas will part, and legit Chinese food will land in Dallas. Until then, check these guys out, it's not a waste of money or time.

First time, dine-in, ordered the Dumpling sampler, and fun rolls. Sure wish I got a picture of those. Like giant spring rolls with crunchy goodness inside too. Staff was wonderful. We were surprised to discover that they do not swap out noodles for rice by request. And the waiter was boasting about how flexible they are! 😂 If you want noodles with your meal you will be paying $5 for a plate of noodles that is large enough to be an entree. It worked for us as everyone at the table wanted noodles. I ordered fried beef, my husband the stir fried La mian noodles with pork. My son got orange chicken. Mine and his came with broccoli. It was great fried beef. Looking forward to the left-overs!

Before I post want to let you know I did try to call the restaurant 5-6x, but at 7pm the phone is always busy. I ordered 3 dishes for takeaway today- one Salt & Pepper Shrimp which was delicious, one Kung Pao Chicken which was below average (both in taste of the sauce and texture of the chicken) and chicken Da Chein which was frankly inedible. My wife threw it in the trash as the chicken tasted gamey and off. Wasting food is a big no-no in our family but in this case it was probably justified. Now I understand that they are popular and busy, but honestly for $16-20 per dish and small’ish portions to boot I CANNOT recommend this as a go to place for Chinese food in Dallas. Sorry. Hope they fix the issues in the kitchen though as their decor, bar and location are excellent.

On our never ending quest to find the best soup dumplings in DFW, Royal China sits close to the top of our list. The dumplings and noodles are made fresh to order at the noodle bar. A friend and I came here to try some food. We showed up in the last hour and they were still so nice. (Some places hate it when you come in late and you can tell.) They did tell us we had 20 minutes to order. So we picked the dumpling sampler which was amazing! The rest was dealers choice. I feel like whatever our server picked out was going to be amazing. The tea she picked was great. The noodle dish was amazingly fresh tasting. And the meat was flavored so well. I can't wait to go back and try more with more time. The service was quick. The food was fresh, hot, flavorful, and filling. Definitely recommend and will go back.

UPDATE: They've become consistently very friendly. 5 stars ---- My family and I really enjoy most of their dishes, but the abruptness and arrogance of the personnel over the phone and at the front remains an ongoing issue (for years now). I do understand they run a busy operation, but there are more civilized ways to communicate that require no more time. And I believe if the tables were turned they too would be unhappy being treated like a nuisance.

Arrogant and Not Worth The Brain Damage- I am a long-time customer -20+ years - with many recommendations among friends as well as dining frequently for business lunches. I was shocked by my treatment tonight. I walked up to place an order to go. They said they were being honest, they had taken all of their orders, and told me to go elsewhere. It used to be that they took great care of neighborhood customers. Not any more! I came home and found another Chinese restaurant without challenge. The good news is that versus 25 years ago, they didn't have much competition. Now they do. As for me, I have had my last meal at Royal China.

The meal came with soup and she forgot to serve the soup. Additionally, the waitress forgot to put my meal order in for service. I had to wait for my meal while my friend ate his food. (The most disgusting thing happened when the witness refilled my water glass, I discovered a dead fly in my water glass). I will never return to this place again!!!!

The food here was pretty mediocre Chinese. The soup dumpling skins were much too thick, which made it uneccesarily chewy, and the soup flavor was not too memorable. I like the food here from my first visit and tried them again. Even though their food is pretty good, their customer service needs to improve. For example, I didn't see my server after order was brought out until it was time to pay. I needed to flag someone down to receive refill for water after waiting for the water guy 5 mins. Outside of those challenges, I enjoyed my meal.

My husband and I have been looking for good Chinese food since moving to the area in 2018. I think we have found it!! We ordered online and picked up at the promised time. Everyone was really nice and the food was really good and fresh. We are both easy and got variations of fried rice. Now that I know it’s good, I will get adventurous with our next order. :)

Put in order for pick up this evening. Pork dumplings and spring rolls were wonderful. Orange chicken and Kung Pao chicken …..I don’t know what the food was but my order was not orange chicken. Greasy, full of red peppers. Not orange chicken. Kung Pao chicken the same. Greasy, full of red peppers. Totally disappointing. I am seriously thinking of disputing the charge.

Cannot name a dish on the menu I didn't LOVE!!! Also, the dumplings are the best in Dallas, no doubt. Plus you can see them making your dumplings there in the Store! A few of my favorite dishes are the Dry Stirred Beef, The Xiao Long Boa, and the Ants climbing trees. But seriously, TRY IT ALL

First I will say the food was good, and large portions which helped my issues. The women who took my order over the phone was VERY rude, I almost decided to not order. Then I got my 3 things I ordered and it came out to $50…are you kidding, I could have gone downtown and gotten a better sit down meal. Then I noticed the gave me chicken fried rice when I ordered pork, I actually can’t eat chicken so it was wasted along with my money. Won’t be going again.

Restaurant is usually busy. Our server was friendly & helpful.

Oh, handmade got me here. I got excited about noodle dish on the menu… yet too much expectation, this place is another “orange chicken” place for Laowais. Can’t blame them. But open kitchen with a fly touring around your restaurant is a sign. 卤肉面, dude way too much Soy Sauce… way too much. I didn’t even want to take that to go. What a waste.

Went here with my mom for her birthday, bad experience server was amazing he was super nice but the entrees we’re terrible overly salted and flavorless, the eggs in the mu shoo pork had a terrible texture they looked fully cooked but when I took a bite, the eggs felt almost raw and mushy, almost all the food was so salty that’s all you could taste and it all tasted the same, almost inedible. The restaurant was not that traditional at all, there was only rich white people eating in there, that should’ve been the biggest red flag. Next time I will be frequenting a place with actual Asians.

Went here for lunch, the soup was cold, people behind me received all of their food and I was there before them. Charge 4.00 for a drink then if you get a refill charge you again which is absolutely ridiculous since it was tea and lemonade. The shrimp with lobster sauce was salty, asked for Lo Mein instead of rice and got some limp noodle.

Still one of the better Chinese non-fast food places in town. But feel like the quality has taken a step lower since covid hit. No longer are there fresh pulled noodles. Okay, okay, okay this place is super popular and well rated by tons of people, but I found it to be good, not terribly traditional, and the service lacking. I visited with my wife and our friends on a couples date, we ordered the chili wontons, and some dumplings for starters. The wontons rocked, the dumplings kind of tagged along in an unoffensive, but uninspired way. I ordered the Dan Dan Mian noodles, and salt and pepper fish. The noodles were decent, but a bit mild on the flavor, almost to the point of being overpowered by the cucumber, which should not be the case. The fish was nicely cooked and the peppers and onions went charmingly with it, but it just wasn't amazing. The dragon and Phoenix my friend had was pretty legit, no complaints there, and a decent portion to boot. The duck and leeks my wife had was another decently large portion, the duck was not overly gamey, which is always a win. It was a pretty good dish. Lastly my other friend had the general kao shrimp, which had decent flavor, and were prepared reasonably well. Why the less than stellar star rating? Well, the place is crowded, loud, hot, and a bit expensive. The food was just not good enough to shine through those coupled with the absolutely terrible service, I have never seen a waitress put her hand in a customer's face and say "later" before...it was sort of funny because I do enjoy picking with my buddy, but wholely unacceptable for wait-staff especially when the customer isn't being difficult. Sure the ambiance wasn't great, and the service wasn't great, but hey neither was the food, it was good, just not what I had expected from word of mouth, and reviews. Popular, Americanized, and crowded, it is good, but definitely over-hyped.

The dishes are authentic, super delicious and definitely not your normal chinese take-out restaurant. I ate soup dumplings in Shanghai and handmade noodles and in this restaurant I could taste the flavors again! We could eat the dishes without rice, because the dishes were not oversalted as in other chinese restaurants. They were just perfect and fresh! I just gave 4 stars, because the price for the starters (dim sum) and main courses are fairly high. So it‘s a restaurant for special occasions.

Some of the best Chinese food in Dallas! There aren't many restaurants in this are that have decent, fresh, non greasy Chinese food. The restaurant is clean and the service is impeccable. Make sure you get the soup dumplings and the sweet and sour soup! Meals are big enough to share and although we didn't have drinks with our meal this time, the ones we saw at tables looked delicious. This place is a little more pricey per plate but honestly so worth it. Portions are big nd you can actually see the cooks working in the open kitchen, one of the best features in this place.

So disappointed the last time I ate here. The xiao long bao was not good. The dan dan mian was not even remotely what it should taste like. Crazy high price points for Chinese staples that are being executed far better at more modest places just a bit further to the north. If y'all want Americanized Chinese like orange chicken-- then, I guess, this is your alternative to PF Chang's. If you want quality Chinese food more in line with Din Tai Fung and other places in the mainland, you must go north.

It’s a gem where the locals all go, for sure.

Terrible service. It’s really troubling to say this however...we didn’t see a single Asian person eating in the restaurant. As an Asian family, we wondered why there wasn’t up until we realized there were white families getting tables before us when we’d waited for almost 40 minutes. It’s truly ironic since we are Chinese. Not to mention the waiter in the front was unbelievably rude, which we found hard to believe since he was a fellow Asian. Never going back again.

This place has delicious xiaolongbao. Everytime I crave it I go here. There’s another place people rave about (Jeng Chi in Chinatown -meh terrible food here) but this place is way better. Customer service is good and people are friendly. La mian noodles are good. Cons: Proportions are smaller than most restaurants for the price you pay. I also ordered 3 plates of chow mein and to my surprise, there weren’t any noodles in the chow mein. It was just 3 plates of vegetables. This is first place I have ever gone to where I have ordered chow mein and have only received vegetables and NO noodles.

This place was pretty amazing. Great location in a nice strip mall. Place looks a bit hidden but is always booming. Came here with a friend and we wanted to know what all the fuss was about. Turns out you need a party of 6 or more to make a reservation which sucks because it was about a 45min-1hr wait time. In the mean time I checked out some sweets next door at Eatzi’s (it’s okay). Once we got in we were seated and the owner actually came out with a wine glass and toasted with a group who were sitting behind us looked like they were life long friends. Place is very classy with contemporary photography on the walls. The waiter was very polite and always there for anything we needed. My favorite thing I tried were the Pork Soup Dumplings they were amazing. I highly recommend them and this place in general.

If I could give zero stars, I would.....My birthday was tonight and my good friend planned an awesome evening. We get there to get our table and the place is packed. Every single table was filled. The host tells us that it will be 45 mins to get our table. An hour later we are called and he tells us the kitchen will close soon and has no tables left. I look over and see one last empty table with enough seats for us. I didn't want to mince words so I convinced my friends that we should leave. It ruined my birthday and I won't be visiting again. First time here, we chose this place because of the hype and talk of delicious food. We ordered dumplings and pork belly steam buns. These were delicious and fresh, but with a plethora of other authentic choices in Dallas there's no wow factor. The mains we ordered were the chicken with spicy garlic sauce and egg foo young. This is a bit more authentic than P.F Changs only because of the homemade dumplings and noodles. Other wise you are better off heading to the burbs for more traditional fare at a great price. This place caters to a crowd and it's flavors and prices reflect that.

Hands-down the best Chinese food we have ever had and amazing service! Each staff member we met was friendly and professional. The waiter was very knowledgeable about their gluten-free selections. The restaurant can make almost any dish gluten-free! The food was freshly prepared and service was fast but not rushed. We will absolutely be returning! For the record, we started with wings, I had the salt and pepper chicken and my husband had the Dragon and Phoenix.

I have been eating here since I was a little girl with my family. Buck was always greeting us with a smile, now he has passed that on to his amazing children who carry on his tradition & love of good food and a welcoming environment. The freshest food and delicious. My go to is the hand tossed noodles, orange beef, dumplings, shrimp & snow peas in lobster sauce, General Chicken. For a special treat order the Peking Duck ahead of time.

This small Chinese restaurant was amazing. The food was seasoned to perfection. We ordered the spicy fish and the ma la mien noodles. The spicy fish was spicy but so yummy so I'd only recommend it if you like spicy. The noodles tasted so fresh and delicious and they make them from scratch! W also had the chicken soup dumplings (xiao long bao) and the broth in it was superb. Service was nice, place was clean, drinks are strong. I recommend Royal China 10/10!

Royal China has long been a family favorite. The dumplings and hand pulled noodles are awesome and I love the variety of exotic teas. It is as good or even better than the delights of Chinatown in San Francisco. We have often gone to RC with a multigenerational crew who have a variety of tastes and dietary needs and every time, everyone raves about their food. The perfectly prepared food, quality and consistency keep us coming back year after year. The best Chinese food in Dallas!!! UPDATE: I am so proud of RC for acting responsibly when an employee tested positive for COVID-19. Their response ensures my family’s continued loyalty. Do what you have to do and we will be there when you re-open! Thank you RC, for caring about your customers and staff!

So light, not laden down with soy like most places. Pancakes - super fresh. Very good value for lunch specials. Restaurant has a bistro feel - am looking forward to actually coming in to have a meal there. Cannot say enough good things - try it!

The food is always good and the atmosphere is always nice. I'd give it 5 stars if it weren't for the repeatedly slow service. I've been there a number of times. Sometimes with just two people. Sometimes with groups over 10. There's no telling if you'll get your food it right away, it if you'll wonder if they forgot about you. But as long as you're ok with that it's a good place to eat. Everything I've had I'd have again.

I am in love with Royal China. I am a "challenge" to go out to eat with because I have food sensitivities (gluten) and am very picky about quality...I've practically had to swear off Chinese food for the past 12 years for those two reasons, which has been sad, because I love it! Royal China is an upscale Chinese restaurant that reminds me of San Francisco, just cleaner! They will make almost anything on their menu gluten free...gluten free and want orange chicken or kung pao? No problem! They use high quality ingredients...gulf shrimp...not the farm raised stuff being pumped full of chemicals, ironically, coming from China. Their teas selection, again, reminds me of what you find in San Francisco. We loved everything we ordered here...service and atmosphere are also fantastic! And, I did not get thirsty and need to drink a gallon of water after we left it. This is my new favorite place to eat when I'm in town. However, it is a favorite of a lot of people so plan accordingly.

Many people claim this place for the "authenticity" of the food but this place is far from it. To be honest, it does taste like Chinese food but it lacks a "soul" and richness that I usually look for in Chinese food. The interior is fancy, modernized, and very white washed. This place seems more of a place to take your American co-workers for a meal and drink during your lunch break, more than somewhere you eat to fill that nostalgia and experience with the family.

How do you describe an old time established restaurant that’s been a part of your life since the late 70’s? With the exception of Herreras and Keller’s drive-in, there is no place I’ve eaten at more than Royal China. From the first time in the door, I have felt that I was part of the Kao family. Buck was one of the finest and friendliest gentlemen you could have ever met. And now with George and April running the place, the enthusiasm has not changed a bit. The incredible menu has been expanded and never disappoints. The new decor is intriguing and inviting and makes you want to come back again before you’ve even left. And yet it remains a relative secret in the Dallas food scene. A family run restaurant that has survived over 40 years must be doing something right. But I must admit, I do miss the Taj Mahal on the back wall in the side room.

Great little gem, it never popped on yelp review apparently it wasn't rated well for some odd reason! So a few friend of mine asked that we meet there and I am glad I did! Small place, smaller than the pictures, supper packed! Very modern, great ventilation, if there is anything I despise in this world is when you go to eat somewhere and you leave smelling like you cooked the food your self, thank God this was not the case so it's a plus in my books! We started with ordered the 4 differed dimsums, didnt care much for it. We ordered the schwan pork wanton in spicy sauce it was perfect and not to spicy at all! We ordered the Phoenix chicken and shrimp it was amazing, the fruits they used with it and everything was just perfect. We also ordered the fried romaine noodles with shrimp, Supper yummy and smoky, noodles were too thick and too long but we managed, the waiter saw us and asked us if we wanted a knife, I almost said I want to see how you would eat it so I can learn 🤓 We also ordered the veggie fried rice it was supper perfect and amazing, great quantity too. Lastley we ordered the orange peel beef! The atmosphere, the service, the food quality and quantity were amazing! So glad I got to experiance this place! Loved it!

I am so glad we went as soon as they opened, because there will be definitely a wait if you don’t have a reservation. The restaurant is well appointed in a busy shopping center. I recommend this to friends and family and we will definitely return 🤗

This resturant's specialty is dumplings (dim sum) and xi long bao. We ended up ordering a dumpling sampler, moo shoo pork, and happy family. The service was decent and food was really very good plus it was *not* very salty, which is huge. Arriving at 6:18 we did have to wait, which was forecasted at 25-30, but ended up being closer to 45. At this time, the only take reservations for parties of 6+. Our really only complaint was with the happy family, where the beef was pretty chewy.

Wish I could give half stars, would put this at 4.5. Went here on many recommendations and apparently it's a Dallas staple (I'm not native). Very busy on a Saturday evening, but that's expected really, made for a good atmosphere. They have the system where you can put yourself on the wait list electronically, you should do that before you leave the house. Having 2 also helps we skipped several larger parties when our time came. I was in the middle of a major Chinese food hankering, so we placed a large order. Egg drop soup was ok, scallion pancake was excellent, dumplings good. The other half ordered the Dan Dan Mian while I had the Sichuan Gon Bao Pork. Both excellent. Forgot to mention you get these fried wonton with dipping sauce, also good. We left literally bursting at the seams. Service was efficient but they were so busy it almost seamed on the boarder of being too chaotic. The table that was sat next to us had a much tougher go at it than we did. I would definitely repeat but probably not at peak dinning hours. Food was so good I forgot to take pictures of all of it!

Service was bad. Our server came too late and was in a hurry to take order. Also, can't say about others in our group, but I personally didnt like the food....I have had better chinese food at regular chinese restaurants, which was way cheaper than this too... also, they were not accommodating for vegetarian substitutes. Biggest disappointment was, while ordering the lunch special, we asked if we can substitute the meat roll with vege roll, he said that would be an extra charge, then there was another thing in the platter with meat, I asked to replace, to which he said not possible. I wont be going there again for sure. Ok, one good thing I remember....the scallion pancakes were good. That was the only thing I liked.

I have been here twice ~ as it is to be a Dallas staple for Chinese food. Unfortunately both times I could not eat, 1) First time was all the baby cockroaches that kept coming up between the bench cushions at the back left hand side of the restaurant. 2) Was the dead cockroach that was in my rice. True story. If you read further reviews you will see mentioned of cockroaches sprinkled through out. Never to return and another True Story.

It's our first time eating here. Food tasted wonderful. We stared with SICHUAN SPICY WONTON, a small piece of pork wrapped in wonton paper in a tasty sauce that was so good, I kept for my other dishes. We also tried CRISPY CHICKEN WINGS which were very flavorful as well. All the main dishes we ordered tasted great. No wonder this place is sort of pricy. 6 items for about $110 with 3 soda.

So, the food/drinks really are good and food comes fast (server was great). BUT, they sat us at the wonton bar area and there were two small, and one large, roaches roaming around underneath and around the pot where they make the wontons. Don't know if that's something they know about (I did let the host know on our way out), but that shut down my appetite immediately. Really is a nice and seemingly popular place, but that's just... not right.

My visit wasn't great, maybe because it was a Friday night and it was crowded. My food came out cold and they forgot to add the chicken. My sister's food had an insect in it. We spoke to the server and they replaced her meal but we had lost the appetite by then . Nobody came to apologize about the insect incident (a fly) and we paid and left. We were celebrating my sister's birthday and we didn't want to make it worse. I understand that accidents happen, but I wish a manager had spoken to us. The crispy beef, the dumplings were really good.

Royal China is a delight. This place is the real deal. I have been trying to find a great Asian noodle restaurant for months. The place I wanted had to be a place that makes the noodles themself; not a joint that rehydrates store bought products. This is that place. Not only that, they are made in front of the customers. Want more? The quality for the food delivered to the table is wonderfully flavored and cooked to perfection. You just must go there.

Located in a shopping/food plaza. The entrance is a big black door. Parking was fair. We were seated immediately. Food was really good. Ordered crab and cheese wontons, pork dumplings, sesame chicken with steamed rice, and dan-dan noodles. Downfall was you couldn't get steamed dumplings, however they could sear them. This was fine but it took almost the entire meal to get them. My boyfriend ordered the dan-dan cold noodle as it was listed as a top choice, however it was so spicy he literally couldn't eat it. I was disappointed that my boyfriend got his soup and entree, but my food didn't come til much later (sesame chicken and dumplings), and I was continuously promised that it was coming. The atmosphere was nice. I was comfortable. It was kinda weird to hear staff telling nearby tables (as they were seating them) "we do have a party at 7pm that has made a reservation" as though to rush people through their service/meal.

Service is impeccable, the food is superb, and I can't believe I've lived in Dallas 40 years and not discovered this gem! Hot and Sour Soup, Crab Wontons, Pork Egg Rolls and for entrees- Ants Climbing Trees and Dry Stirred Beef with Fried Rice (making up for lost time)! You won't be disappointed, everything from the condiments to the entrees !

Sat.is not a good time , 2 of us had to wait over 45 min. They do take reservations 6 plus people. We had the Salmon and the vegetables plates. The best most delicious meal I have had in years. Our waitress was wonderful, as we wanted a healthy meal. She explained everything to help us determine our choices. I should change to a 5 star.

AMAZING. Seriously, no debating over where to eat tonight. Go to Royal China. Dumplings were fantastic (ordered as an appetizer...2x). Had 5 dishes (family style) and I would order everyone of them again. Service was mediocre. But truly didn't care because the food was so good. You're welcome.

Great authentic Chinese restaurant with home-made noodles bar. Great service and huge selection of teas. Dumplings were delicious, crab wonton were crazy too big but good, as well as my noodle dish. However the roasted duck was disappointing, far too much fat and bones that could not be eaten, and it was not crispy.

Keep your receipt! Just checked my receipt vs bank account and caught our waiter trying to over tip himself. We barely got any service from him so not sure why he thought stealing was okay, let alone, deserving of a higher tip. We literally waited 20 minutes until he came over. No acknowledgement from other staff. The only thing worth getting is soup dumplings, which were good. My pan noodles were greasy and filled with nothing but protein. The terrible service, food, and, not to mention, theft does not warrant another visit.

If there's better Chinese-American in Dallas, I don't know where to find it. You can get your orange beef and chicken fried rice, and it will be made with more skill than anywhere else in town. Maybe that's why there's almost always a wait for dinner? But I'd like to think the reason is the more Chinese-Chinese side of the menu. The potstickers in particular are delicious, and they're conveniently served with color-coded wrappings (pork, veggie, shrimp, or chicken). If you want a show with your dinner, you can watch as the dumpling ladies do their thing right behind a plate glass barrier in the open dining room. In summer, you might want dan-dan mian, thin noodles (also made in house) in a cold peppercorn sauce that is spicy, sweet, and tart all at once. Royal China is usually bustling with families, and everyone seems to be having a good time. The folks in the neighborhood are lucky folks indeed.

This is the best Chinese restaurant in Dallas, hands down! The friendly service, ambiance, and authentic food are all on point. Try the handmade dumplings, hand-pulled noodles, scallion pancakes, and cellophane noodles with minced pork. The wine list is extensive, too. Recommend making a reservation during busy times - it's worth the wait!

While maybe not the most authentic Chinese in the metroplex, it is likely the most consistent and delicious of them all. We drive 25 minutes to get here, passing a dozen other options. The salt and pepper chicken and orange beef are great, and we order their soup dumplings every time we go. They take call ahead, but not true reservations, so prepare to wait a while.

I love this restaurant so much. I have been coming here for years and it’s such a comforting place for me. I grew up outside of Philadelphia and Chinese food was a staple in my family from an early age. It’s hard to find good Chinese food in Dallas. This place always hits the spot though! The xiao long bao are amazing. I always order them! I love to get the homemade noodles as well, and my go-to’s for my main course are eggplant with chicken, duck, and the occasional beef dish. Salt and pepper fish is also amazing. My boyfriend always orders it!

After sitting down, I started to glance at the open menu and started to get very excited. The entire first page is dedicated to different types of hot teas. While you may not get excited about the tea, you should get excited about the food. My three friends and I decided to share dishes. I suggest you do to if you are with company. The service style was for the kitchen to bring it out as it was ready. However, I saw other tables receiving the meals all at once. We started with crab wontons and siracha dumplings. The second round was a variety of dumplings and Dan Dan noodles. The finale was xio Lin bao and it was glorious. Everything was delicious and service was great. The wait is definitely something to be aware of. We waited for at least 40 mins for 3 people. Reservations for 6+ are taken, but it is still crowded. Come prepared to wait, but this place is well worth it.

I have worked in Hong Kong and China - never found any great Chinese in Dallas...until going to Royal China - excellent food and service. They make their noodles and dumplings on premise - and all so good. If you like dumplings - for an appetizer - get the dumpling sampler so good! The sampler has chicken, beef, shrimp and fresh vegetables dumplings - YUM! The noodles are fresh and so tender. I had the La- Main combo dish - great fresh tender noodles with tender steak and shrimp with crunchy veggies. We all had different entree’s and all had great flavor, fresh veggies and nothing was greasy! Located corner of Preston and Royal. Full bar, take out available. Expect a wait if you go at dinner time. Busy all nights at dinner.

We had the pork dumplings, beef baozi, crab & cheese wonton, and the sichuan mala mian. I really liked their teas, the dumplings were great, and so was the mala mian. The noodles had an awesomely even peppercorn flavor, just as I would traditionally expect! The baozi was extremely soggy and flavorless, however, to the point of inedible. The meat was also very dry. I think there's a problem when the fried wonton strips served with every meal are more enticing than a dish you pay good money for. The cheese & crab mix tasted good, but was way too big and not crunchy at all. Again, I ended up prefering to use it as a dip for the wonton strips. If they were smaller, I feel there wouldn't be a problem.

Great service, clean environment, mediocre food at an expensive price. This restaurant definitely knows it's target demographic and it's definitely not people looking for authentic flavors. The dim sum is palatable but nothing to write home about and the noodles are overtly sweet. Everything labeled spicy is definitely not spicy. Wait staff are polite and attentive and the decor looks the part though.

My spring rolls were literally thrown from plate to plate. Waitress seemed unhappy that we didn't order alcohol. Receipe came back torn half so one of the lads didn't give a tip. Waitress got mad at me and questioned me why the other person didn't give a tip (rude and unacceptable behavior in country I came from). Generally food ok (ate in Tokyo, Japan and other Asian countries so my bar was set high), quality of service below zero, disappointing.....

Best. Soup. Dumplings. Everything else is so good too, but my family and I will come here just for the dumplings. They also have great lo mein and sesame chicken! The other good thing is they can accommodate larger groups. We had eight, and they could seat us at a round table just big enough. In addition, they have a big rotating circle in the middle of the table, so it makes it easy to share entrees family style.

I could not wait to go to Royal China since I heard so many amazing things. My family and I went to celebrate my graduation on a Friday night and it was extremely crowded and busy. We gave our name to the host and he said it would be 15 minutes at least. He was a bit rude but I brushed it off. When it came time for us to be seated, I didn't hear the host say he needed a minute and followed him. Then he very rudely put his hand up to my face and said, "I said I need a minute." I usually give people the benefit of the doubt but he was so rude that I had to knock off a star. We ordered two noodle dishes, the dumpling sampler, and Xiao long bao. They were all extremely good. It was almost worth putting up with the rude host. I would come back again for the dumplings but the host makes me hesitate on coming back. I can't understand how someone who is very short and surly is put up with. We also ordered the crispy duck which was good as well but not mind-glowingly so. All in all, I would go back on slower night just for the dumplings and hopefully the host will be in a better mood.

This is my favorite Chinese restaurant in town. My family has been going there for more than 30 years. They have a huge menu including traditional & family dishes. They have a dumpling bar where they are making the dough for the dumplings and the noodles fresh. It makes a BIG difference. The environment is attractive, comfortable and friendly. The owner, George, remembers just about anyone who has been there more than a few times and welcomes them as old friends. They seem to have an unbelievable amount of regular customers. My recommendations: -Dan Dan Noodles (Just get them!) -Salt & Pepper chicken, shrimp or tofu -Ma Po Tofu (great vegetarian dish, perfect tofu texture)

I came here in search of Xiao Long Bao also called Soup Dumplings. I've been in search of them all over the North Dallas area and so far every place has fallen short. I'm happy to finally say that this place has legit soup dumplings. It's $10 for 6 decent sized dumplings. There plenty of soup inside each dumpling with a nice rich flavor. The meat is juicy and the shell goes well with the meat. It comes with a vinegar dipping sauce to add an extra pop of flavor. The entrance to the place was a little confusing because there was no sign on the door. It just looked like a random for to a secret club. Once you enter it looks like a nicely decorated modern Chinese restaurant. The service was friendly and prompt. It's was with busy during weekday lunch hour. I sat by the bar for convenience. I can't wait to come here again and get more dumplings.

But $52 between the two of us is horrible for the lack of quality the food presents. I've had better TV dinners. Honestly, I will order from a $9 a plate restaurant next time instead. My family and I have been dining at Royal China for nearly 30 years. This is a Dallas institution. It sets the bar for food, service, and atmosphere not only for Chinese restaurants, but for restaurants in general. While I have tried nearly everything on the menu over the years, my go-tos are the steamed dumpling sampler, crispy snapper, and green-tea ice cream. The quality of the food and service is amazingly consistent. No matter if it is an odd hour or during the peak of weekend dinnertime, the food is always phenomenal and the waitstaff are always prompt and attentive.

Rude and disgusting! It took forever to get to a person to place an order after a long time of busy signals and being hung up on. I thought they this must be worth it but when I finally got my food it was cold and tasted horrible. I know authentic Chinese and Americanized Chinese. This was on par with a microwave dinner from The grocery store. Don’t give in to the hype. This is a horrible restaurant. Bleech!

Takes two hours to get their form of delivery then they don’t include more than half the food. Very rude on phone with no solution.... Someone has responded to my review here, however I would like to say this is untrue, no one from the actual restaurant tried to resolve this problem, at all. In fact, I was told on the phone by the restaurant its self that there was nothing they could do. Infact the young woman was very rude and was being helped on what to say by someone else at the restaurant.

My sister and I decided to meet up for a work week lunch. Battling a uncommon rainy Texas in fall, we made it to Royal China, had hot bowls of our favorite soups within minutes of ordering and our full rice and noodle dishes served just a few minutes after that. Incredibly quick service, especially on a weekday at 12:30.

Very nice atmosphere from the time you walk in the door. Incredible menu selections ranging from common Chinese food fare to incredible chef's selections. We had wanton soup, crispy red snapper, and cashew chicken. Nothing disappointed. If you're looking to get away from the cookie cutter Chinese buffets this is your answer! Look for the unmarked door in the middle of the shopping center.

Some of the best Chinese food, in the meyroplex. Arrive early, as a wait, us inevitable after 6PM. Both service & show receive positive marks. Be prepared to pay a little more $, but walking out, unsatisfied would be highly unusual. Parking can require patience, as other retailers, plus smaller parking lot can make for some challenges. A solid choice for good sit-down dinner.

I am not coming back to this place again, ordered chicken and shrimp noodles, when i got my plate I only had one shrimp, the price was $18 for that plate. I talked to the waitress and she said that the plate was fine, and if i wanted more shrimp I had to pay $1 per it. That's crazy, then she came with a cup with 2 shrimps and told me the plate comes with only 3 shrimps! If i knew this instead of paying $18 for chicken & shrimp noodles i would have paid $14 for chicken noodles. Besides that the place is expensive and it is ok not that good. Portions are small, rice has no taste, and service is poor.

I've lived in Dallas for ovethr 20 years, and this is my first visit to Royal China restaurant on Preston Road. It's an attempted to bring Chinese food to an upscale setting. Pricy Americanized Chinese food in an attempted upscaled setting. Like going to a fancy dentist in a fancy office and paying much more to have your tooth pulled because it was a prettier setting.. It's a Failed Attempt, food is not worth the price or setting. Just like most Chinese restaurants, service is poor and just trying to have a glass of water was an elaborate process. I've had lunch in a hole in the wall restaurant that was better tasting, cheaper, and reasonable. The Dim Sum that was served was certainly not fresh. I was Really disappointed by this place.

Food is good, i like when they dice veggies but they get sloppy often, lo mein will come out pretty soupy 60% of time, kung pao will be correct 8.5 outta 10 times. great product and ok service. my standards might be high so Ive learned to forgive them and just keep on paying $34 for my two TO GO entrees.

The food is good. Its a little pricey for chinese food. My husband got the phoenix and dragon plate I think is what its called and I was expecting something amazing when it turned out it was just chicken and shrimp for $25. I got the dumpling sampler and everything in the inside of the dumplings was mixed with some funky spices. I ended up only eating the outside of the dumplings because the inside was just hard to eat. I did get the lotus blossom tea, which was pleasant, but not worth $10. I think this place can be pricey because of the area. Not sure if we'll be going back.

I would summarize this as great food and good service. We had reservations for a party of six at 6:15 p.m. and the table was ready on arrival. The server was quick to take our order as they were busy. I ordered a Kirin light beer with the Moo Goo Gai Pan and my wife had a glass of Pinot Noire and the Chicken Lo Mein. The drinks arrived quickly. The food not so quick and not at the same time. The first entree arrived after more than 30 minutes after the two orders of soup which themselves took a while. The last person's entree arrived about 15 minutes after the first. All was quite tasty and well presented. My portion was a bit skimpy. My wife's portion was quite generous and the brown rice was at no extra charge.

Very good food, and the wonders are incredibly nice and know almost all the customers by name! The food is always super fresh, and absolutely AMAZING. Honestly one of the best Asian food restaurants in Dallas and probably DFW. The wait staff and bar staff are awesome and make sure your meal and experience both are as best as they can be! Be sure to try the dumpling bar as it’s the only good one I’ve tried here in the city. I can’t wait to come back as soon as my sons health improves. This might be one of the few better Chinese venues in the Dallas metro area. But You do not expect something real authentic. Food here is quite far from “authentic” rather close to “Americanized.” Now that’s obvious when you see 90% white and 10% asian eat lunch here. However, that does not mean food is not good. Food is good and delicious. A little bit pricey side.

Highly overpriced but the food is acceptably good. Their dough is prepared well and their noodle dishes are nice. The wait times and the price are not worth it though for the quality of food they provide - there wasn't something that they did so much better than other hand pulled noodle shops that I consider it a must to dine here. Moderately overrated. Will not likely dine here again.

This place is alright. I do not understand why there was such a long wait to eat here even with a reservation. We came during the holidays so I knew this place would be somewhat busy. However the food wasn't as authentic as I expected. It was mostly Americanized Chinese food. They did have some authentic items on the menu, but it was quite difficult to find. I don't get what the hype around this restaurant. The food is mostly ok good at best. Not as authentic as everyone makes it out to be... And most of it is average tasting. I couldn't find anything that I thought was a stand out. Dumpling sampler was average. The Hong Shao rou was not good, flavors werent there. The meat was mostly fat and I know it's pork belly, but at least try to give pork belly with a semblance of meat. Dan Dan noodles were nowhere close to being like real Dan Dan man. Maybe I just didn't have what's good there (I have had other dishes here, but just cant remember what they are at the moment). There are much better chinese restaurants around that I would easily pick over this. Not to mention the prices are not very good considering the portions or the quality of the food. I made the mistake of giving the place a second try, but in the future I will definitely not be eating here again. With Plano and Richardson just a little bit further, there are much better chinese places to eat at.

Tucked away in a corner as it is, you would never notice it were you not looking for it. Best Chinese in North Dallas.

My go to place for xaio long bao!! I love those juicy pockets of heaven! Everything is always delicious! The crispy duck is excellent tender crispy and melted like butter in my mouth! The beef baozi are so scrumptious!! This place has by far the best wonton soup around! The pork belly buns are a nice surprise so full of flavor! The owner is always so nice and very helpful! The ribs are so tender they fall right off the bone and melt in your mouth. The ants climbing trees was delicious very flavorful with chewy/springy noodles! The wontons in spicy oil was such a delightful surprise! They are my new must have when coming here! A little sweet a little heat and a lot of yum!! The egg drop soup is always great and very crisp. I love all the different dumplings (panfried or steamed)!!

The absolute worst Chinese food I have ever had! And so overpriced! Please save your money and don't come here. My sesame chicken was extremely soggy and mostly made of the chewy part of a chicken and breading. What a rip off! I've paid half the price at other Chinese restaurants and get better taste and quality. The wings I also ordered was not good either. I will never be back.

This is a great family place to eat in or take-out. The menu is extensive and has lots of options, so it is easy to understand why the orders are sometimes inconsistent. It seems as though the chef's, especially during rush hours, may botch substitutes or exemptions from your order. I am not too picky. But if you are then I suggest eating in for your first experience during a non-rush time (like before 5:30pm on a Tuesday-Thursday). That way you can get catered on and get the best experience possible. A fantastic item on the menu is the szechuan string beans, try it! I would have giving this place a 5 star rating, but again it has some inconsistencies in types of noodles, order exemptions, etc. So check your order before you carry out.

Made a reservation for 7:30pm earlier during the day. Lady on the phone stated that they had a lot of reservations for 7pm so it would be better to make a reservation at 8pm. Arrived before 8pm and let them know that we had arrived. They had our name down and just circled it, did not say anything about our table. Waited for 20 minutes and heard the hostess telling someone on the phone that it would be a 20 minute wait. What is so great about making a reservation if you have to wait the same amount of time? Found out that our table had been reserved but no one bothered to seat us. Finally sat down, waited another 30 minutes and decided to flag down a waitress for service. By this time we were already there for 1 hour! and had not even had our drink orders taken. Saw the owner come by and give another table hugs and some welcoming words, the table had arrived at least 20 minutes after us, and got their food at least 10-15 minutes prior to us. The entire evening we had to keep flagging a server down because we couldn't get adequate service. As we were leaving, saw the owner behind the bar, taking a shot of liquor....

Came on a Tuesday night, place was crowded but we were still served immediately. The atmosphere was very nice. We ordered vegetable dumplings as an appetizer, and they were very good. My entree, stir-fried vegetable la mien, also held up the standard the dumplings had set. The serving was also quite large, easily enough to share. I had a great experience and I absolutely recommend it!

First time here and the waitress recommendation of both the xiao long bao and the stur fry la mian were both really good. The xiao long bao was very flavorful and the wrapper was made well. Didn't tear easily like how i found at dim sum places. I love the broth inside and not very happy if the dumpling torn before i even eat it. Close to how it was in Hongkong. The noodles just perfect on the firmness and chewiness level. Definitely my new fave place to go 😁

I have no idea what people experience with some of the lesser reviews. I walked in for the first time and was greeted by seven people and responded to my wishes to make an item a little spicy. Everyone had a smile on their face and ready to help when a customer came(unlike the sales people running away at some large hardware stores). So got home and started to dine. The preparation was good and then and the flavors were spot on....the home made noodles were delicious . Not your average oily mushy chinese food......homemade noodles great....and yes the hot sour soup was really good. The folks at the two stores i walked into both raved about the place said(both) they suggest them when folks want a place to eat...not that they were looking for chinese food. I know when one looks at reviews you throw out the raves and the bottom one stars....but just try them!

I entered on a Saturday night with 13 other friends. We already typed up what we wanted to order on a document and printed it out to make it easy for the restaurant. 3 of the items were "unavailable" on a weekend. We ended up ordering about 16 plates, and they gave us 2 bowls of rice which could feed 4 people (small adults). I asked the waiter for more rice because 2 bowls of rice for 16 dishes doesn't make sense. They charged extra for more rice. They also hand-wrote the amount of tip needed to be paid for.

This place is extremely overated! Honestly they charge 1.5x the price for the average dumpling. (most Chinese restaurants will serve almost 35 varieties of dumpling (Dimsum)each having 3 to 4 pieces for $3 to $4. This place served me 6 dumpling pieces of each type (they only had about 7 or 8 varieties) for $9 to $10 a plate. So pricing is too high for the quantity. NEXT, the dumplings they did serve really didn't taste as spectacular as you would expect for $9 to $10. I felt like I had wasted my time and money going to this place. Feel embarrassed even writing a review about them. When I told my Chinese friends about the place, they started laughing. They had never heard about it. Take my word for it, there are far less fancier places you could go to and feel much more delighted with what you get to eat. Staff were polite, parking was difficult. Decor was nice but they could have had some classical Chinese instrumental music to go with it and set the ambiance, (especially given their ridiculous prices). No where close in terms of gastronomical satisfaction to what Kirin court or Maxim's can deliver.

This place is great. Has declined some in recent years, as it seems that hiring is not as stringent as it used to be. We go once or twice a month and the untrained wait-staff have to be asked multiple questions before they get what we need. It is hit or miss getting a good waitress or not, but the food is great, and soup dumplings make it worth the service hassle most of the time.

Royal China is amazing and we go at least once a month. Despite the generic name, Royal China is probably the best traditional Chinese restaurant in dallas. From their extensive selection of teas, to xiao long bao, to scallion pancakes, to Henan lu-rou Lamian, to dung-po pork, everything is on point. Their noodles and filled dough appetizers are made/cooked at the bar at the center of the dining room, my favorite seat in the house. They are packed on weekend evenings so, reservations are suggested as waits can be lengthy. Even if it's just a phone call before heading up there, it's worth the couple minutes of effort to potentially save a 30m+ wait. Even still, it's worth the wait.

The service was marginal. We received our meals 5 min apart so one was warm while other was hot. The "lemon chicken" came with a sauce that tastes like a honey ginger sauce. No lemon juice taste or citrus taste at all. Also ordered was a beef noodle dish. Lots of noodles, not much beef or veggies. The solution to the no citrus sauce was a sweet and sour sauce. That tasted more like a stronger sweet ginger sauce. Not enough sauce for the chicken served. The bottom line. It is a great noodle place. All they do right is noodles. If you don't want dumplings, but want a Chinese dish, go somewhere else. This is another overpriced "bistro" type Chinese restaurant.

OHOHOHOH man, their hand pulled noodles, that was some real street cuisine from China, and they made it tasted just like how it tasted like at home, and the beef in the noodle was melting in your mouth. Also their steamed bun with stuffing, man, I don't know. This place is pretty freaking expensive, but it was worth it. Even though those food are really just Chinese street food that doesn't cost much at all, but they made them so right, it is very hard to get authentic street Chinese food here in US.

A good Chinese Restaurant. I love the homemade noodles! Although it can get a little loud, it still has a good atmosphere. The in-house dining is good, but most of my experience with this food has been delivery. The delivery reliability from Royal China is much better than, say, "My Family's Pizza." The food can sometimes be a little cold, and sometimes they get your order wrong. My main complaint with the delivery is that some of the best items on the menu are not available. There are still some great options though. A good restaurant with a good dining experience.

The service here is beyond AWFUL! Last (and final time) I went there with a couple of friends, and they sat us at the bar. We then noticed that several LARGE insects were crawling all on the walls and out from behind the ovens in the same area that the pot-stickers are made. The cooks were stepping on them and attempted to drown them out with bowls of boiling water. We confronted our waitress about it and she denied it with every excuse possible, and then said that "food no made here". After arguing with her for a good amount of time, one of the cooks confirmed it. I asked to see the manager who denied even knowing what the word "bug" meant. He finally understood and then also denied that anything happened. AGAIN the cook had to tell him that it actually did happen after they argued between themselves in Chinese. I told him that it was disgusting and could potentially be harmful to someone. He replied by snatching up my bill and exclaiming "I'll take care of this!", like that resolves the issue. At the end, I got a free $60 meal, but I still cringe thinking about what could have been in my food.....avoid this place!

Food is OK but service is poor. Very poorly managed. They don't take reservations. If they claim they do, they only put you on a waiting list. We had 5 people and were offered for a small square table can barely fit 4 people. We were asked to take the table or want to wait for a bigger one. Not even one second for us to think, they told us to decide "RIGHT NOW" or they gave to someone else...They basically told us they have no shortage of customers to fit so make decisions now or not waste the time...Avoid them!

Eaten there twice for Sunday lunch. Nice atmosphere. Excellent service. The food is out of this world. I love dumplings, and they have an incredible assortment plus a sampler. The most fun is they spin and twirl their own noodle where everyone can see. It's a fun show. Sort of like spinning a pizza at an Italian place, but it's Chinese noodle. Order one of the noodle platters or soups, as they are wonderful.

Loved the food, very authentic eastern cuisine fitted to meet the western style of comfort. Very good blend of Chinese- American style decor, which is also represented in the style of cooking as well. Loved being greeted by George, the owner, who is very caring, happy, and open minded. April, his wife, did most of the art work displayed around the restaurant, I soon came to found out, as well as the decor. Very modern and rustic look, and when the food came out, I knew it was prepared with care and that it was worth every penny.

DO NOT COME HERE!!! I decided to eat at Royal China for my friend's birthday, after seeing all the positive reviews about this place. However, it ended up being the most over expensive, poor managed restaurant we've ever been to. Most of the foods were NOT authentic Chinese. I ordered the duck for 20 dollars and the portion delivered was extremely small, not worth the price. I could get a larger portion of duck for only 10 dollars at the Chinese market!! The stir fry tasted like it was made from somewhere like Panda Express! But the worst part of this restaurant was the SERVICE. TERRIBLE SERVICE, HANDS DOWN! I have never been to a restaurant with such terrible service before! The waitress could barely understand English and messed up our orders many times. By the end of the night, she even forgot to charge us for some meals that we ordered. What was so pathetic was the MANAGER. We asked for the manager to help us split the check to avoid letting my friend pay for her birthday dinner. We wanted to split the meal, that my friend ordered, among the 4 of us. However, the manager kept SCREAMING AT US that he cannot do it. First of all, YOU DO NOT EVER SCREAM AT A CUSTOMER, REGARDLESS OF AGE. Second of all, YOU CAN DO IT. you can split the check but it is too "troublesome" to do it. PATHETIC. His attitude and how he handled the entire situation disgusted me so much. I made sure the manager got an ear full from me by embarrassing him at his own restaurant. YOU DO NOT KNOW HOW TO TREAT YOUR CUSTOMERS!!! I'm letting everyone know just how bad this restaurant really is. Don't get fooled by the positive reviews like I did, this restaurant is not worth your time.

My family was looking for Chinese in a new area and we went to Royal China based on the other reviews. They were spot on- delish! I tried a new dish and my parents went with old standbys- everything was fresh and tasty. It's a nicer restaurant, not your hole in the wall place or pricing, but its worth the cost. Our server was very prompt and attentive- in that pleasant non obtrusive kind of way. The ambiance was refreshing: well lit, comfortable music, nice decor. You should go! We can't wait to go again.
