Really great dim sum place that's a bit off the beaten path. The food was authentic and delicious. The service was a bit slow but that's because the restaurant seemed unusually full for a Monday lunch.

What a cool experience!! I certainly didn’t realize the type of dining it was until I got there, but that’s ok!! We sat down, and they brought carts with different foods on it. They were all yummy!! I couldn’t figure out a way to know how much I was spending, and the service was slooooow. However it was a fun experience and delicious food.

If you are looking for authentic dim sum, look no further than here. We love coming here on the weekends for lunch when they have the carts but be aware this can be a slightly stressful experience with long waits due to popularity and short staffing. You also have to occasionally be assertive to get specific dishes you want from the carts. For these reasons, we also love coming for early dinners during the week or on the weekend when you can order whatever you want directly off the menu. A few of our favorites include the ginger scallion beef tripe, turnip cake, taro crescent, stuffed eggplant, and spareribs in black bean sauce. Ultimately, everything is delicious and up to par with dim sum restaurants in San Fransisco and New York City's China Town.

I was so excited to try this place and wanted to come here for a while!! I was really disappointed in the service. We arrived at the very start of their dinner service and were the second group to be seated. We waited... and waited... and waited for someone to take our order. Finally after several other groups were seated and their orders were taken, an older lady finally took our order. I didn't know what dim sum was and we didn't even get that option we ordered regular sized dinner meals.
Everyone else was getting served their dim sum meals. Several dim sum plates later... we finally get our meals. The food was ok. I tried the sesame tofu. Yeah, no. I've had better at other places.
We got our check and guess what? WE GET A STICKY NOTE ON TOP OUR CHECK WITH OUR TIP ALREADY ADDED. We looked around and nobody else had that. After everything, I conclude that they don't like latinos. My sister in law went before and said she and my brother waited so long and they left after only placing their drink order and never got it.

I have had dim sum in Hong Kong, Vancouver, San Francisco, NY and many other cities. Have to say that I was very impressed with the exceptional food quality, ingredients use and the service. Stir fried dishes were presented with just the right amount of "wok hei". It's a family run restaurant so you can really taste and feel the love and care put into the food. Very impressed, this is one of the best kept secret in town. We will be back next time we are in the area again.

We sat waiting to be seated for 15 minutes, after we were seated, we didn’t receive any menus. People walked around pushing carts of food that was getting cold. I finally got a menu, but was then told they couldn’t cook anything because they closed in 45 minutes. None of the employees spoke much English. I left after not getting anything to eat. The little my sister ate, she said was good, but not very warm. WILL NEVER GO BACK!!!!!!!!!!

I guess I won’t be back at Hong Kong for Dim Sum anymore. I didn’t come here for awhile and today, we are here for Mother’s Day brunch. I was standing in line for 15 mins which is normal. We got seated all the way back and of course, they are busy. I totally understand. I lived in Philly for years and been eating Dim Sum in China town often, and they were long wait and busy.
But today, My husband even told me that I need to be patient… we were seated far back, no food cart came around. Couple ladies walked to the back with food tray but not even reach us. When we finally reach the ladies, they said they would be back and nope, never see them again.
Yes, I was miserable and no, I’m not happy with the service. I rather go back to Morrisville, I don’t care if their food is not as good as here. I never eat Dim Sum and spend $50 for 5 persons. At least, $25-40 per person in general for us is normal. This being said, we barely get food served. We just sat there and I’m glad I brought milk and snack for my son.

Super fast service and the food was pretty good. We went for dinner so did not experience the yum cha carts. The Hong Kong noodles were the best dish we got. Half of the restaurant was closed off, which was a bit odd. If I lived closer I think this would be a great takeout spot.

The servers were so nice! Food was pretty mediocre - also there are things on the menu that have shrimp that don’t say it on the menu, so watch out if you have a seafood allergy. It was completely dead at 7:30 on a Saturday - maybe this place used to be better / busier in the past? Don’t think I’ll be back.

I have had dim sum in Hong Kong and mainland China before. This is probably the best place to eat authentic dim sum in the triangle.
I went on a Saturday and their service was quick. It took about 10 minutes to get a table but once we sat down, we got our tea pretty fast and the dim sum carts were on a roll. The place was packed and you can tell people were enjoying their meal.
I have been trying to find a restaurant with good chow fun in Cary but no luck. This IS the place to get authentic chow fun that has the wok hei taste. The rice noodles don’t stick together which is a must in chow fun.
I will be coming back for dim sum!

I had hot and sour soup, Hunan beef and my wife, egg drop soup and shrimp fried rice. Honestly, we were not impressed. My soup was not very strong and I had very few vegetables in my dinner. Neither was very flavorful. My wife's dinner had no vegetables in it and was bland but the shrimp were tender. Was disappointed because the reviews were good but I see they focused on the dim sum. Oh well. We'll give the place a pass.

The food may be authentic but the service is truly terrible; this small home turned restaurant is over capacity and under staffed. I'm a huge dim sum fan and absolutely love the silver trays, carts of food, and fast moving attentive staff that embody a great dim sum experience.
I enjoyed the food, but they only offered our table fried food. To get any other dim sum dish brought to our large table we had to explicitly ask for it which defeats the purpose of the carts. The main steam cart that had most of the dim sum (that we had to ask for including chicken feet and tripe) was propane powered and you could smell it. The fact that these dishes were so close to us and were not offered to our table is unacceptable.

As someone borned in Hong Kong, this restaurant is my favorite Chinese restaurant in the area. Some of their dim sum are made on site, which is rare even in Hong Kong standard.
Their turnip cake is a must try. It is the result of a complicated cooking process to grate a turnip and cook it in boiling water, mix it with rice flour and other ingredients, steam it into a cake, and then cut and pan fry it. And in here, after go through so many process, you can still smell and taste the turnip, mix with the soft rice flour cake and Chinese bacon in it. Definitely a must try dim sum in this restaurant!

Just had dim sum lunch (takeout). It was excellent. Had the shrimp dumpling, a large shrimp wrapped in a nice thin cover. This was identical to what we have had in Seattle. (BTW, $3.50 for three pieces, not $3.95 each as someone else wrote.) Steamed roasted pork buns, sesame seed puffs (these are the best we've had anywhere!), spring rolls (they obviously make their own), hot and spicy tofu and Chinese broccoli w/oyster sauce. It was all excellent. We lived in the Pacific Northwest (Seattle) before we moved here 30 years ago. We have gone back multiple times. Today's dim sum was as good as we've ever had back in Seattle, or even San Francisco. Not the fanciest place and certainly not the big restaurants in Seattle with large tables but the food is just as good.

First off, they tried to put my family (all 6 of us) in this small off-shoot from the main dining area that had chairs stacked in the corner, te dining area was not nearly full to covid capacity,, there were 4 customers in there at 2 separate tables. It was very uncomfortable and so I asked that we be seated in the main dining area at an appropriate table to which they obliged. Then the lady taking our order pretty much asks us to huddle to one side of the table so she "could have room to bring food"? I was like whatever...the service was sub-par for our table. It took a while before anyone came to take our order. I noticed they were very helpful and attentive to the other tables that were seated after us (only 2 other couples) which was very off putting. The only saving grace (2 stars insteadof 1) is that the food was actually pretty good. However, do not order the crispy duck...or anything fried

Out of all the Chinese restaurant lunch specials I've tried in Durham, this place was the worst. Got the sweet and sour pork with a side of egg drop soup and Shu Mai and shrimp dumplings. Instead of mixing the sauce with the pork, they gave me a small portion of fried pork and the sauce on the side. However, fried pork was 90% batter and 10% pork, so I couldn't taste the pork at all. Egg drop soup was also too salty and the dumplings were definitely not worth their price ($3.85 for each).

The take out service really need to be improved. I came here to pickup my order two weeks in a roll and I had to stand in the 88 degrees outside to wait on the line to pickup my order for +40 mins after I called to place the order 1.5 hrs ago.
After 40 mins wait at pickup line, I finally paid with credit card and then I was asked to for the food in the car for another +hour?! In the end, we just want to cancel the order to get the money back.
To call order/pickup suppose to be quick and efficient. Apparently the phone call to order and pickup will take +2 hours. Twice in two weeks same experience is too much.
[Updated] I went back for take out two weeks later. Everything seems to improved. I was able to pickup take out order in 30 mins after ordering on the phone.

One of the great things about the 21st century Triangle is that we can now find as in NYC and other large cities wonderful bargain priced off the beaten path places to eat with first class food. In a small house on Guess Rd in North Durham is the Hong Kong with great and authentic dim sum and delicious menu selections. It is a treasure that local foodies need to know labout. No full bar - but beer, wine and sake. Most of all friendly service and great food.
AS OF AUGUST 16 HONG KONG IS OPEN FOR DINE IN!!! The food is as great as ever as well as the service. The ladies are more thorough with Covid protection than any place we've visited with fresh plastic covers on the table for each service and only styrofoam plates and cups used. They are safer than porcelain or plastic plates and bowls. Foodies arise! Visit them now so they know we love them. See you there!

Best place in Durham for dim sum. Get there early because there can be a wait as it fills up quickly. I love being able to speak Cantonese with the servers.
Update: My partner and I brought my mother to Hong Kong Restaurant when she visited. The owner took special care to make sure we got the best experience from the authentic Hong Kong cuisine to the lively Cantonese banter and more authentic Hong Kong cuisine. One thing of note, the restaurant is allowing dine-in during the pandemic by reservations only and social distancing within the restaurant. Every precaution was taken and our safety was never in question. Thank you so so much for everything.

This is the best, most authentic dim sum in the Triangle area. It is a bit of a haul coming from Brier Creek but well worth it. While the outer and inner appearance definitely show the establishment’s age, the best food is often found at these hole-in-the-wall places. Whenever I know I am going here, I am more than willing to add an additional ‘cheat day’ to my diet.

Are there tonight, the service was horrible. No refills the entire meal. We were there and waiting to be seated, another family walked in with the same number of people and they seated them ahead of us even though we were there first. Never checked on our table even once the entire meal, just dropped off food. Never got the egg roll we ordered but we were charged for it. Bad experience, not going back.

Honestly I can't say the food wasn't good.... I was kinda let down with the portions compared to the price. Hot and Sour soup is a must have if I have Chinese food, and it is always disappointing if a large isn't available.

I am a good cook myself- also a Korean - so I tend to be very conservative when I give ratings.
That being said, I am fairly happy with the food I had here. Yesterday, I ordered pork buns, sesame chicken, shrimp dumpling, szechuan shrimp/fried rice. The sesame chicken was the crispiest chicken that I have ever had in chinese restaurant in the united stated for the last ten years, so color me impressed! The shrimp dumpling was just about right size for me - and i am a BIG eater - and the Szechuan shrimp was seasoned properly and tasty.
The downsides, however, were the pork buns and the fried rice. The stuffing had barely any flavor, and the fried rice was also too bland! However, with kind staff members, it was overall good experience.

It hasn't improved over 15 years. Still the same old setting and mediocre dim sum. I am surprised with the booming RDU area, there is no competition to force this place to evolve at least a little bit. But judging by the patrons filing in, it is still the only domain game in Durham area, for now.

This place is a favorite and we go every month or so. The Dim Sum is great and the price is reasonable. Been going for 4 years now and today's visit was the only time the service was slow and the selection less than normal. We still had plenty to eat but missed some of our faces. So, I would go with 4.5 🌟 but I can't do I gave a 5.

Durham barely have any Chinese food, and my family were very thirsty for some Chinese food, I ordered a Hong Kong Congee, but there was plastic in it, like a little piece, the waiter explained that it was a Onion skin and it’s safe to eat. However you can’t peal it off which is very concerning.

This is not a typical place you go to get egg rolls and fried rice ( not that they're not good). If you come empty stomach, you want to fill it up with their specialty- dim sum. This is the best place for dim sum in RTP area. The restaurant has been around for decades and dim sum is authentic and flavorful. Spare ribs is steamed with black beans that you can still see and taste. Steamed Shrimp dumplings and turnip cakes are my point of reference for dim sum. They certainly know what they're doing.im definitely grateful to have a little piece of Hong Kong in Durham!

Flavor was just okay. They forgot to bring my fried rice.the only time they came to my table was to ask me if I wanted a box to go.
My dinner had a fly on it so there is no way I would have taken it in a box.
The only thing that I say was good was the Sake!
Egg drop soup was okay but not that flavorful.
Definitely not a place that I would go back to.

Went for dim sum over the weekend. Pretty much everything was good. I especially liked the sauteed bok choy and shrimp dumplings. Don't forget to try their iced soy milk that they make in house. It was mild and lightly sweet, and a good accompaniment to the rest of the table. Get the sesame balls as a dessert, that is if you have room left! There is ample parking too.

I went here for takeout based on the other reviews and was somewhat disappointed. The Crispy Duck was not crispy and was doughy and the Hunan Chicken has no spice so it was bland. The wgge rolls were disappointing also as they were small in diameter with little filling and tasted like cardboard. I will try them once more with something else off of the extensive menu.

My family and I went on Christmas Day to eat dinner. We were treated very poorly and were also disrespected multiple times. the waitress would literally throw and slide the plates we ordered instead of placing them down like a normal person. Anytime we asked to see the menu, she would snap and say “what, you wanna order again?” in such a disrespectful way. I do NOT recommend eating here. They don’t deserve anyone’s money. I’d rather make the drive to Charlotte for some actual authentic Dim Sum. Save your money and go elsewhere.

Service: The waitresses become vexed and angry when you order a lot of things or when they suddenly become busy. There seems to be a disconnect between these ladies understanding that "being busy" shouldn't transfer into "emotional instability" and "hurried, angry, annoyed tones".
+
Cleanliness: Utensils, cups and plates were clean. So was our table. Adequate amount of cleanliness in bathrooms.
+
Price: Cost for 4 people, 13 dim sum plates and one pork congee was $61. Good price because we were all absolutely stuffed.
+
Quality: Authentic dim sum dishes and foods. So incredible.

The lines have always been (and still are) crazy long, but we arrived relatively early and were able to get seats quickly.
The best-selling Baked Buns with BBQ Pork were the first things we got. With sweet thin crusts, soft bread, and saucy barbeque pork, these buns were served warm and were steaming delicious!
The Sticky Rice with pork in lotus leaf were sweet and meaty, while the Shiu Mai were really juicy. The juiciness of the shrimp dumplings encased in the incredibly thin translucent skin will make your mouth water.
The Egg tarts were yummy, and the hot pot of Jasmine tea were a nice neutral complement to the meal. We ended up stuffing ourselves with Fruit cocktail in Almond Jelly, Shrimp Rice Rolls, Pork BBQ, and Ha Gow (Shrimp Dumpling).
I guess the only warning I'd have to give, aside from the long lines, is that you have to refrain yourself from biting into the dim sum too quickly, as they are always served hot!
This place is considered the best Dim Sum in town and I totally understand why. The most authentic Dim Sum because it is made fresh, while other places serves frozen food.

You may not be able to tell from the rough exterior but this restaurant has been around a long time. They make consistent Chinese food and have wonderful dim sum. Saturdays and Sundays there's usually a line out the door for their dim sum but what most don't know is that dim sum is offered all week long. So you can avoid the crowds by ordering off the dim sum menu during the week at lunch and dinner. I've been dining for 20 plus years and it's still one of my favorites!

Good variety of dim sum. The place can be a little packed, but it is one of the best dim sum restaurants in the triangle area.

I came here whenever I am in the area. The dim sum is god and I love the food here. I have come here many times and they still make a few items for me even thought they are no longer on the menu. But even if they did not do that I would still come here a few times a month.

Fantastic food! People wait a long time to get in at prime hours.... For a reason.
Sunday Dim sum is the best in the area. Just look at the demographic of the patrons... You will realize the quality and authenticity.

I went here to celebrate and get a bite to eat with friends and family on a Saturday afternoon after graduating. The place is fully packed and it was a little hard to find parking on the gravel paved parking lot. The food was authentic and delicious, especially the shrimp dumplings that you can get from dim sum on the weekends. The only drawback from this restaurant was that almost all of the dishes have msg and shrimp in it, including the soy sauce; however, it was relatively easy to order foods to be made without either. We also had to wait for a bit to be seated, since the restaurant was packed with other Asian American locals, getting their early Mother's Day grub on. It would have been probably better to have made a reservation beforehand. Overall, I would definitely eat at Hong Kong Chen Chinese restaurant again!

I spent $36 dollars on 2 entrées and 2 dim sum dishes. My main gripe is that the volume of food was lower than I expect from a Cantonese restaurant, but the taste of the food was very low quality and flat as well. I could have gone to downtown Durham and bought two delicious $17 dollar entrees instead, and regret coming here on a recommendation. They cut the chicken feet in half and I fear that they included less than the regular fare of three chicken feet in one dish. The chicken clay pot was mainly a heavy sauce and vegetables, leaving an empty feel in my stomach afterwards. The beef chow fun was fine, but the fourth dish, the Lotus-wrapped rice with chicken, only came AFTER we finished eating and when we were ready to pay the bill. A late dish is fine during busy hours, but they should have warned us of the delay.

Hong Kong is the most authentic dim sum experience I've found in the area, with carts full of the same kinds of dumplings, pork buns, etc. that I've enjoyed in New York and DC. Plus, my kids love it.

It was a super cold day I was freezing I went in for tea and soup it was horrible. And I am no critic of food my wife has to give me a stern look to keep from eating fries on the floor McDonald's so for me to complain about food. Wow. In their defense I do not think either the hot and sour soup which was not hot and sour soup it was a egg drop soup with extra cord search a mushroom and something orange to make it spicy and sweet their won ton soup was salty and brother and their egg drop soup was still gelatinous I don't think any of the three soups that I had we're actually made in that kitchen I think they were store-bought and presented poorly but if you cannot serve any soup good I'm not willing to risk my pallet on any more of your menu.

Amazing dim sum place! The actual restaurant's exterior and location don't match the quality of the food, so don't be dissuaded from stopping by! My Chinese friends highly regard this place as the best dim sum in eastern NC. They also have weekend cart specials which I was told resembles authentic dim sum restaurants in Asia.

Great dim sum place! They have quite a wide enough set of options and it's not too expensive. On the side note, it is a really popular place so if you are unlucky you might have to wait on the line outside for quite a while.

Best Chinese in North Durham. Great for take out, or lunch. I have come here for 12 years. Not easy to find a parking space for Dim Sum.
Love the Shred-them-three Pork and Curry vegetables.

The building itself feels very outdated and took away from our dining experience.
I'm not a huge stickler on having fancy, up to date decor; though this place did bother me.
The food was not memorable, though that is good in a way. It wasn't bad, though not exceptionally good.
If you're in the area, give it a try, though I would not recommend making a special trip for this restaurant.

The food we had as takeout was delicious. It took a little longer than anticipated, but the price was good. I don't see us ever eating in the dining area, but that certainly isn't a deal-breaker. Rice, soups, spring rolls, and mainstays would all be recommendations.

The worst costumer services I ever had, because after a while I been waiting for my food and i just asked to the waitress how long it take? The owner yell at me with reason. It's make me so mad. the owner she is so rude. Food take so long to get done. I just been there this noon (September) it made me piss off. I suggest not to go there, if you hate bad service. This the last time I've been there.

Their Beef & veg, Chicken & veg w/ Hong Kong noodles is really good. As for their Dim Sum It's Great.. The Owner Bruce very Friendly guy, and seems to enjoy cooking up some great food.

Overall this place offers very little value for the money - even though it is rather cheap. Got some soup to begin with. It had some chicken in it that tasted bad. Got some chicken as entree too - basically no taste. All in all a terrible experience. Paid a total of $12.98, excluding tip - it was not worth it at all.
