Good and service was exceptional as usual but noticed a few different things that were minor. Not sure if it’s the waiter or new policy. If the owner reads these reviews I hope he would respond.
First of all I noticed that our waiter didn’t bring the usual noodles to us after seating so I asked. He brought them and even replenished them after we had eaten them. We remarked amongst us how how thoughtful he was until we saw on our bill- additional noodles -$1.00.
We were not going to buckle and dime over a dollar but the waiter shouldn’t have brought it to us without explaining the new charge. By the way the noodles weren’t as good as the old ones. Also , we were used yo getting pineapple with our fortune cookies and then sake right after. Not sure again if it was the waiter or new policies at Great Taste.
None of the above would keep me from continuing to enjoy these great meals but just wondered if these were new policies.

Detailed Review:
My wife had a endoscopy today. I picked her up at 4:30pm. Since she was still affected by the anesthetic, we decided to order dinner to pick up. I ordered a Egg Drop Soup (quarter) for her and we share a Peking Duck. This review will mainly focus on the food I guess.
When I get in the restaurant to pick up my food, I took some photos of the inside. It looks clean and cozy.
- Egg Drop Soup: fragrant, good. My wife likes it. I tried some spoons and have to agree with her.
- Peking Duck: the best part of this dish is they have a side Duck meat and veggies. I went to other Chinese restaurants for Peking Duck, after they cut the meat and skin, they will throw away 75% of the Duck. Not here, aside with a dish of meat with skin, they have a dish with meat with veggies and sauce. They are both good. According to the price range, I give it 5/5.

So I would say I give the food 5/5. Now that I like the Duck and the atmosphere of this restaurant, I will go back and try their Lobsters.

The food tastes pretty good but the prices are very high. Much higher than competitors. The prices online and the actual prices are about a $5 difference. That was a bit surprising when I showed up and the food was almost $20 more than I expected to pay.

So my experience with this restaurant is what it is because last night I went to google to remind me the name of the place so that I can order some Chinese food. So I called and I placed my order and the prices for the three items that I ordered were $9.90 or $10.01 each yeah so I put in the order and when my wife went to pick the food up the prices were different it ended up costing me about nine dollars more than what the Internet price and showed. So I called after my wife showed me the receipt and they said to me you should’ve went to greattaste.com and not Google I said the reason I went to google was because I couldn’t remember the name of the place and if it wasn’t for me going to google I wouldn’t of seen the name Great Taste and I wouldn’t have put in an order tonight so thank God for Google they told me that GOOGLE does whatever they want and they have nothing to do with the prices when you use Google that’s on Google so it’s not their fault. So today I went back to GOOGLE and I pulled up Great Taste and GuessWhat the prices changed to what they charged me last night so the ribs instead of $10 for 13 chicken fingers instead of $10 were 13 so another words somebody reached out to someone to change the prices and all they can do is say we’re sorry. I had my conversation with the owner today and explained to him what happened and he went on to say it’s GOOGLE not him that’s responsible for the prices , are you serious ?
Explain to me if it’s your business how does googles put their own prices on the Internet ?
I will Never go there again ever !!! They Apparently don’t need my Business .

So I gave it 3 stars because customer service was good. However, the food is way overpriced for your typical American Chinese food, there wasn’t anything gourmet about what we had other than chicken being placed on a bed of lettuce( I guess that’s what they consider gourmet). The food wasn’t bad but I’ve had better at half the cost. $106.00 for 4 people, Everything is charged individually so you are paying double the price from any other American Chinese restaurant.

I used to live in New Britain and I returned for Christmas and placed a huge takeout order with Great Taste. They serve both authentic Chinese cuisine and more Americanized Chinese food, but it's always great no matter what. This restaurant has been around forever, and I suspect it will continue to thrive for much longer based on the consistent level of quality Great Taste manages to provide.

It had no sauce. It was served with dry pork fried rice. It seemed like I was served Saturday night left overs.

Hands down the best Chinese food in the area!! Every item was fantastic and you could easily taste the exceptional preparation in this food vs. other Chinese restaurants. Sure Great Taste does cost a bit more but no question about it, it's worth it. Chicken with garlic sauce, seafood delight, shrimp with mixed vegetables... all 3 dinner items were so good. Boneless spareribs and teriyaki beef also winning choices. Once again this easily the best Chinese restaurant in the central CT/Hartford County.

Used to be the best Chinese food in the Hartford area, with fantastic service, now they charge $3 for tea and $1 for noodles (stale) and no longer give you fruit at the end of you dinner. Additionally the food is bland with very little of the beef, chicken or pork that it’s supposed to come with. Portions have gotten smaller and the service is much slower. All in all - it ain’t what it used to be, so I’m going elsewhere and advise you do the same!!!

Very disappointed in the service and quality of food. We went on August 14th. Ignored by the waiter for 10 minutes. Wanted us to order our food while ordering our cocktails. We asked for noodles..he said 1.00 charge. Tiny bowl of noodles. Waiter just dropped the plates on the table and quickly walked away without making eye contact. Dinner was okay and the other was bland. No one bothered to ask if we liked our dinner. Over heard the management saying no tea served because business was not so good to another customer. The waiter put the leftover food in a cardboard box instead of a container and it leaked all over the bag and my car. Too bad because they used to be outstanding and we want to support them but they need better customer service

Not sure what’s going on at Great Taste. The food is way too expensive to get warmed over food that clearly is not being made fresh. I ordered chicken wings and House Lo Mein. None of it was fresh and you could tell. The meat was stuck to the chicken bones like when you eat day old chicken and drop it in the fryer to appear fresh. The lo mein was stuck together, not loose like it is when cooked fresh. $36 for warmed over food. I think NOT! We were frequent customers. Not anymore. 😡

We have been going here forever! We live in NB this is our go to Chinese food fix and I’m so sad today because I wanted Chow Fun, similar to a Thai food noodle dish that I crave on cheat days and they gave me Chow Mei Fun…. Completely different but similar names… maybe they need to clarify when ordering since the noodles are two totally different things. Such a bummer for being a loyal customer for 30 years 😩.

I was surprised by my experience, as I work at a local hospital and was told they were good, but the food was awful. Perhaps it was a bad day, but I will not go there again. I actually got the impression if they don’t know you/you are not a regular, that they purposely serve subpar food—b/c based on the cars in that lot, no one is driving those cars to that place for bad Chinese food. Not sure what going on but over the last few meals have been disappointing to say it nicely. Portions have shrunk and the taste is gone. I remember the General TSO sauce and chicken was the best in the area now it's totally bland. The pork fried rice was slightly crunchy and bland too. Got a chicken and broccoli combo, only had 5 pieces of chicken...keep in mind this was a $11 dollar dish. Not sure if it's new owners or what but certainly the wrong direction .

This is not the Great Taste of the past. Twice in the last three weeks they deeply disappointed. Both times the same meal was not prepared as ordered. Our server almost slammed our dishes down as if in a great hurry. I should mention that only three tables were occupied. When the waiter argues with the customer that scallions are not onions, (an allergy to onions includes scallions).
Going out is a treat, thus was anything but.
This was the place to go for special occasions, it is not any more.

If I'm being honest, I was pretty disappointed. Great Taste is usually awesome but I don't live in this town so I don't get to have it often. So I had lunch there and the fried rice tasted like air, and the boneless Spareribs, though tasted okay, were borderline cold. I eat Chinese takeout weekly and I've never had ribs that temperature before and thats even after it's normally delivered to me or transported home. For about $10 the portion was really small. I would have been better off a lunch special at just about any takeout place in Bristol and I would have gotten more food and could have gotten two orders and it would have been more enjoyable.

After reading all the good reviews on this place we decided to order... this was the BLANDEST, most rubbery, slimiest, chicken like substance we’ve ever put in our mouths. The beef was basically beef flavored chicken, pale AT BEST. I should’ve known when they told me the food would be ready in 10 minutes. Fried rice was a boxed rice with peas and 90% onions. The sesame chicken was placed on a bed of wilted lettuce which made it more slimy and disgusting. Seriously we couldn’t eat it.. you’re better off flushing your $40-50 down the toilet bc the satisfaction will be greater than this terrible excuse for chicken. If I could give 0 stars I would.

I’ve had a lot of Chinese food including stuff in Chinatown in NYC. This is probably the best Chinese food I’ve ever had. Everything I’ve ordered has been delicious and fresh (lo mein, wonton soup, spicy pork garlic). I’ve been in person and ordered and there was minimal difference in food quality. However, I will say that they treat their customers excellent - you truly get superb service.

The service at Great Taste is always phenomenal. But I do recommend that if you want to have great chinese at a more affordable price for you to order takeout. I believe that I had better quality and more quantities at a better price doing takeout than I did eating at the restaurant. I did think that putting some of the meat on a bed of lettuce was kind of off-putting because lettuce gets warm and Soggy and doesn't really go well with the warm meat for example of General Tso's chicken or orange chicken. I think next time I get food from here I'm going to order take out instead of coming in for the experience.

Made reservation was seated quickly and only one wait staff person on duty. Took 30 minutes to be waited on. Soup came out another 30 minutes later. Appetizers were delayed another 20 minutes dinner was ok. Total time out on a slower Saturday evening 2.5 hours that was just a bit longer. I think next time will get take-out only.

Great Taste Chinese restaurant was on TV about great places to eat in Connecticut, after seeing the show my wife and I had to go and try it out. Great food for the price, couldn't finish all of it and had to take it home for lunch the next day. After you are done eating they bring a wedge of pineapple with fruit and hot towels to clean up with, that is incredible service that you don't get at other restaurants. We will definitely be going back.

First off the customer service is amazing. The spare rib and chicken finger combination hits different here than any other Chinese restaurants. Overall the service and the food are great. You cannot go wrong with a visit to Great Taste in New Britain.

Took my daughter Joanna for her 27th birthday for dinner. The food was fantastic!! I had The Spinach delight complete dinner. Appetizers Crab region wonton soup desert was coconut ice cream!! 😋
Our waiter was so kind and helpful. My youngest asked for the calamari to be. Cooked without pepper. They accepted her request.
At the end of our meal the staff came over and hang Happy Birthday with a candle in it. Was a wonderful time!!
Looking forward to going to Sunday brunch.

Food had no flavor nice place but the prices are outrageous for some regular Chinese food for 40 buck I could have went to a regular Chinese restaurant and got 4 combos that can get me full but I spent 40 bucks on steak and pepper and I kid you not I had 4 little pieces of steak and a plate full of peppers and onions what a rip off

Stopped in on a Saturday night, pretty busy and I was seated quickly. Derek our waiter was very attentive and detail oriented. Our drinks and tea never went half empty. Food came out quick. Service was great!. Food was pretty good as well, good portions. Left happy and full.

Excellent Chinese food. Wait can be long on weekends or holidays but it is totally worth it. The food tastes healthier than most others (whether it is or not, oh well it's so good). The vegetable lo mein, vegetable fried rice and vegetable dumplings are very good. The portions are decent and we usually get two meals out of everything. Parking can be a pain as well on the busy nights.

This place used to be great. Now it has new management and the quality has plummeted. The chicken used to be fresh white meat, now it's usually a chewy rubber texture. Also the food tends to be only slightly warm and often cold on the bottom, which makes it seem they reheat old food.
Don't believe the hype, this place has gone way downhill.

The staff is very friendly and the decor is great. However, this is like the whitest Chinese restaurant I've ever been to. It's really just Chinese takeout food served in a fancy looking place. Great Taste is like a second home. The same wonderful people every visit, and always a warm welcome the minute you arrive!
The food is delicious and always consistent, with maybe an exception on Mondays. The ingredients are fresh, and one can request hotter or milder flavors. The specials are exceptional, but the true character is how the traditional entree’s are true to Chinese cooking.
The Sunday Brunch is a fantastic deal, and a great way to invite a group of family and or friends to share a meal and not leave feeling broke.
The Peking Duck is our all time favorite, we get the two course version, and love each preparation equally. The duck is not greasy or too fatty, the skin is crispy and in it’s first presentation in a pancake with scallion and hoisin sauce, made table side, is yummy. The main dish of duck and vegetables is mouthwatering.

The food is always good. However last night we had a waiter who was both slow and seemed not care about us. One appetizer came out 10 minutes before the rest 1/2 the meals came out without plates to use as we were sharing. The rest came out later and first batch of food was getting cold. There was no apologies or even awareness of the issues. As it was a birthday celebration we didn’t want to ruin it by making a fuss but it was disappointing.

After reading a good friends absolutely glowing review of this restaurant, I decided to try it. We went for dinner on a Tuesday night and the food was old. We ordered a PuPu Plater and General Tsao chicken. Everything that was fried was dried out.. and not fresh. Everything tasted reheated. The staff was friendly and the restaurant seemed clean enough but who are they trying to fool? I was polite about it and didn’t complain but the more I think about it, the more I realize that THEY are the rude ones. That was a disgusting experience, and I’ll never go back. You can’t expect to serve food like that and have repeat customers. I just don’t understand what happened. Gross.

The food was good, although I've had better prices, variety, and taste while visiting some of my favorite buffets. The waiting staff were a little more no-nonsense and almost curt than I would expect from a nice place like this. I noticed a certain lack of finesse as well, with dripping water pitchers being passed over customers, food stains on white sleeves, setting food down a little unnecessarily fast. Granted, it was peak time and the place was packed, but I expected more from a place that came so highly recommended.

Excellent Chinese restaurant...I think it's the best around...our waiter was beyond attentive and also made some nice suggestions...he was also extremely helpful with the ceiling duck making all the pancakes that we're liberally coated with housing sauce, delectable pieces of perfectly cooked duck with just the right amount of scallion to top off each pancake...these people know what they are doing when it comes to peiking duck and not ordering this specialty would be a shame.

The BEST Chinese restaurant we've been to yet! The food is expertly prepared, using only the freshest ingredients. No heavy breadings, just great flavor and plenty of it. Food is modestly priced. Portions are generous, so we had lots to take home with no room for dessert! Our server was pleasant and quite the conversationalist. The entire experience was a delight - so much so that I texted my sister during the meal to tell her I found our new restaurant for family get-togethers. We will definitely be returning.

This is THE BEST Chinese restaurant in all of CT. Bar none! Their service is impeccable... And has been for the last 30 years plus! The Peking Duck special is beyond amazing vif you're looking for a treat to share. But everything, and I do mean everything, on the menu is of the utmost quality. I can recommend all of the soups, THE best egg rolls & spring rolls, superb fried wontons (steamed are great, too... But fried🙄!),
House special Chow Mei Fun (thin-noodle lo mein), General Tsao's Chicken, Moo Shu anything.... essentially any type of meat with any style of cooking will be the best. I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough. 😊 Thank you so much for our delicious meal today!!!

This place went above and beyond through the entire experience. The wait staff was extremely attentive and nice. The food was presented very well and tasted delicious. There was a complimentary starter akin to chips and salsa, bit it was more like a friend dough with a sweet and sour sauce as well as a wasabi mustard sauce for dipping. I was given free hot tea, as well as a fortune cookie and a small plate of fruit after my meal. Everything was conlcuded with a hot rag! The prices ranged from about 15-20 a person without drinks, and I think that's a totally fair price for what you get.
I don't normally give out 5 star reviews, but there isn't anything i can think of that would bring it down to 4. Definitely recommended if you're looking for Chinese food!

So i took my mother out today for mothers day and i thought it would be nice to go here. As we sat down they brought us plates and on the plate was a baby cockroach. Disgusting, showed the waiter amd the owner. They saw it with their own eyes. Did nothing but brought a new plate and a sorry excuse why that happened. Never again. Beware.

The interior of the restaurant is classy and welcoming. The maitre'd seated us quickly and was very polite. Right after seating our waiter came over welcomed us to the restaurant, poured our water and served us some fried wonton strips with mustard and sweet sour sauce. Then also served hot tea. We ordered general Tao chicken and Beef with snow peas. The entree's come out in shareable dishes. The food was so good. The service was good and the price was worth it. If you are in the area during lunchtime stop in. You won't be disappointed.

I always feel special when I eat out at Great Taste. The service is impeccable, the food delicious, the decor beautiful and clean, and the prices are more than reasonable. My daughter treated me to dinner for my birthday...this was the highlight of my day! We shared their rainbow soup and Mt. Fuji dinner and we still had some to take home. Yum! 😄

Ordered lunch take out. Kind of pricey and I've had better. The General Tso chicken which is supposed be spicey was not. The Chinese Kitchen in New Britain has much better food but it is take out only but the Crab Rangoon and the boneless bbq spareribs are amazing.

This is the best Chinese food I have ever eaten and I am so happy that its less than 20 minutes from where I live. Great Taste is so good that i cant eat at any other Chinese restaurant because nothing compares. The staff are beyond amazing and personable. They always remember you if you've been there before and they are always so happy when you walk in the door its like a priveledge to eat there. The lunch prices are unbeatable and like I said, Great Taste will probably ruin Chinese food for you. Once you eat there any other Chinese restaurant will never compare!

Ordered two combination plates for take out on December 25th at 5:30pm. The phone was answered promptly and politely. I was on hold for no more than 5 minutes and then my order was taken quickly. I arrived 30 minutes later. The restaurant was packed but I was able to get to the take out counter with no hassle. My food was ready and I was out in less than 10 minutes. The for was was excellent. Sesame chicken and pepper steak. Highly recommended for the quality and price.

Best Chinese food in Connecticut. We have an excellent tradition of going here every other Christmas eve, and it was awesome as always. I had the scorpion bowl to drink. We started dinner with the PuPu platter and some crab rangoons. Then we pork fried rice and General Tso's chicken for the main course. All the food was excellent. They have a classy ending where they bring you hot towels to freshen up, along with sliced pineapple and orange slices. I fed a large family of 6 adults and 4 kids for less than $200. I highly recommend this restaurant

Had a great time here with my family. The chinese food they serve can be described as a bit more Americanized but if youre not looking the "authentic", superfluously spicy food then this is the place for you. For the appetizer, look no further than the Pu-pu platter, great for sharing with a couple of people. The warm towels they bring after the appetizers and the meals just top off the amazing service by the staff. Will definitely visit again.

In my opinion this is the crown jewel of New Britain; and well hidden at that. From the outside you wouldn't give it a 2nd look. Walk through the doors and you're greeted by waiters dressed in black and white and you're seated at white linen covered tables. Service is 2nd to none and without a doubt, is the finest Chinese cuisine in the Hartford area. The only Chinese restaurant we go to now!

Terrible restaurant...Thats what I would say in a nut shell. After reading all the great reviews about this place, I went to this restaurant along with my family. we were greeted well and gave a nice seat. There ends all the good gestures. Next came a guy, who was so rude in evening responding to the special asks on drinks. He was just throwing plates, cutlery and glasses on the table. I would say, he was so rude. Then came the server to take orders. He was taking order as if they dont want to serve anything for us. I had to go to a point where I smiled and said that we got in to a wrong place....Anyways, may be its just the way they approach Indians..I am not a racist, but I really felt so. Very bad experience....

This is a classy Chinese Restaurant. Excellent atmosphere, attention to detail in every aspect of the dining room and nice artwork on the walls.
I took my seven year old daughter there for dinner and it made her feel really special. She especially enjoyed the fish tank and fancy dishes.

I've never experienced 5 star dining before, and this place is definitely that! From the moment you enter the door, the service is outstanding! The napkins are kindly placed on your lap, you're served tea and crispy noodles as soon as you take a seat. I'm pregnant and I feel like they treat expecting mothers with the most generosity and respect. The food is fresh, and even the iced water tastes good. Plus, your glass will not be empty for very long before someone comes around to refill it. If you want to get the rest of your food wrapped up to go, they gladly do that theirselves asking specifically how you want it contained. Before you leave, you are handed warm towels to clean your hands, and I received a plate of fruit too. I kept asking my bf if anyone else has fruit, but he said he thinks I was given fruit because I'm pregnant. This place is beyond amazing... I live literally right next to them. The area makes you question them, but you won't be disappointed!... check em out!

Not only was the food delicious and tasted much fresher than your average Chinese take-out place, but the service was INCREDIBLE! My water glass was never less than half full, the servers were wonderful and polite. They even came over with warm cloths for us to wipe our hands with. I ordered take out 3 times before writing this review but I've been disappointed each time. I'm at a lost to why they have such a high review. Their food is subpar at best. It's just the same crappy Americanized stale deep-fried chinese food. Their crab Rangoon is thick and tasteless, their bbq spare ribs were hard and dry, the pork fried rice each time was stiff and stale like they are recycling it. The house special lo mein was burnt tasting and the noodles chewy. The wings weren't so bad but in this last order, one was decent but the second was weird tasting and yellow inside. Really? The meal of just a pint of house special lo mein, and combination plate of spare ribs and 2 wings with a bed of pork fried rice came out to $19.41. High price for garbage. We ended up throwing the food away because we couldn't stomach anymore. If you're a noodle lover like me then go to Mecha in Fairfield or Gobi Mongolian Grill in Southington. If you want better than subpar chinese food, then go to LC Chens in Fairfield. Their rib roast, wings and Rangoon are the best. I employ you, don't pay for garbage.
